DENTON – Chelsea Gibson reached double-digit kills for the ninth time this season as the Angelo State Volleyball team swept Texas Woman's University, 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-15) Saturday afternoon at Kitty Magee Arena. The Rambelles hit .337 in the contest and extended their winning streak to three, claiming their third consecutive 3-0 victory.
Gibson was efficient on the offensive attack, knocking down 10 kills on 16 total attacks with only one error. She hit .562 in the contest and had two block assists. Setter
Alex Woolsey distributed the ball well collecting 30 assists and nine digs with one block assist. Freshman

In the first set, Angelo State (6-6, 3-1 LSC) came back from a 6-3 deficit to take the lead (11-7) after going on an 8-1 run. The 'Belles took advantage of some Texas Woman's (3-9, 1-3 LSC) miscues while chipping in kills by Woolsey, Valdez and a service ace by libero
Caroline Cleveland. With a three-point lead, the Rambelles would knock down 14 more points, holding the Pioneers to just four to take the first set, 25-12.
Texas Woman's was held to a negative hitting percentage in the second game, as the 'Belles took control of the ball quickly jumping out to a five-point lead (10-5). The Rambelles led the entire set, hammering out 12 kills in the game with a .294 hitting percentage. With a 23-15 advantage, Valdez and Woolsey slammed back-to-back kills to claim the second set, 25-15.
The 'Belles hit a sizzling .464 in the third set, with 14 kills and just one attack error. Gibson had five kills in the third set alone, her first breaking a 4-4 tie. That would be the last tie in the set as ASU took a commanding lead over TWU. The 'Belles went on to win the third and final set, 25-15.
“We played well in every aspect,” Head coach
Chuck Waddington said. “We did a good job defensively and allowed them to make mistake. It was a nice team effort. Everybody contributed. I'm really pleased with how we played.”
The Pioneers were led offensively by Launa McClung's team-best nine kills and .368 hitting percentage. Defensively, TWU was paced by Kendra Coulson's 16 digs.
“We're in a good position to head to Topeka and play some good teams out there,” Waddington said.
The Rambelles look to continue their winning ways at the Lady Blues Regional Crossover Tournament on Oct. 1 and 2. The 'Belles open tournament play with Truman State and will go head-to-head with Emporia State, Southwest Baptist and host Washburn over the weekend.
