Rambelles, Lions Set for LSC Championship Quarterfinal Rematch

LONE STAR CONFERENCE SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State Rambelles and Texas A&M-Commerce will meet in the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference Soccer Championship for the second consecutive season. ASU (6-9-3, 5-6-3 LSC) won last year's match, 2-0, for its first postseason victory in postseason history, but lost both matches this season to the Lions (8-8-2, 6-6-2 LSC). The two schools will play at 1:30 p.m., Thursday at the Wildcat Soccer Pitch on the campus of Abilene Christian.

“They are a really hardworking team and have been playing really well together,” ASU sophomore Jordan Benfield said of TAMU-Commerce. “They have been making good passes and finishing everything hard. We are hoping to come out playing stronger and better in the back. The defense needs to be pinched together more and offense has to take shots.”

Texas A&M-Commerce, which snapped a three-game losing streak last Friday with a 2-1 win over Texas Woman's, has 21 conference tournament appearances in its history and has a 10-11 record in those matches. Angelo State is 1-8 in LSC championship play. The winner of Thursday's match will play No. 2 Abilene Christian at 2:30 p.m. on Friday in the semifinals for a berth to the championship at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

“We have had a lot of ups and down this season,” ASU junior Hanna Horeis said. “We have to have the consistency of staying strong throughout the game. There have been just those moments when we play well, but we have to have that consistency."

Each of the women's soccer championship games will be aired live via video streaming online. Webcasts of each game are available free of charge.
