SAN ANGELO, Texas – Angelo State's
Kaelen Valdez had 12 kills and 20 digs to help the No. 16 Belles volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep over Midwestern State, Saturday, at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.
Valdez's eighth double-double of the year helped Angelo State earn its 28
th victory of the season and a school-record 17 wins in the Lone Star Conference.
Chelsea Gibson added 13 kills to pace the Belles offensively.
It was the final regular season match for the Angelo State and the final home game for Belle seniors
Celeste Bonter,
Debbie Ohl and
Kayla Smith.
Junior setter
Alex Woolsey had 44 assists and seven digs for the Belles while Bonter contributed nine kills to her stat line. Freshman
Shelby Wilt had 16 digs for the Belles backline of defense.
Smith, who came into the match with 990 career digs, recorded nine for the game, and is one short of becoming the ninth Belle player in program history with 1,000 career digs.
Midwestern State's (15-15, 7-13 LSC) Shelbi Stewart lead the Mustangs with 10 kills. Kiara Jordan had 22 digs on the match for Midwestern State.
Angelo State will return to the court again on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 2:30 p.m. for a rematch against the Mustangs in the first round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament in Canyon. The Belles will be the No. 2 seed, the highest ranking earned under head coach
