CANYON, Texas – A trio of Rambelles scored in double figures, led by senior
Camille Perkins' 23, but West Texas A&M shot a season-high 63 percent from the field to snap Angelo State's four game winning streak in a 71-56 Lone Star Conference contest Saturday.
Perkins recorded her fourth consecutive 20-point game adding five rebounds and four steals. She was joined in double figures by junior
Paige Weishuhn and sophomore
Lindsey Mahone. Weishuhn tallied 13 points, with one rebound, three assists and two steals in the game, while Mahone notched 10 points, two boards, three steals and one assist.
The Rambelles (13-9, 6-4 LSC South) quickly took the lead on a Mahone trey (3-2) and extended their lead to as many as six points (8-2) in the opening minutes, but the Lady Buffs surged back to take a 12-10 advantage on a three-pointer by Lacee Logan. Angelo State was able to tie the game at 16 on a pair of free throws by Perkins, but the Lady Buffs pushed ahead and took a six-point advantage of their own on a jumper by Ariel Robertson (22-16). However, their lead would not last long as the Belles went on a 10-0 run turning a six-point deficit into a four-point lead (26-22). Despite the Belles' efforts, the Lady Buffs hit a hot streak of their own and took a 12-point lead into halftime (41-29).
The second half was all West Texas A&M as the Lady Buffs never trailed. WTAMU's Jamie Simmons put the Lady Buffs up by as many as 20 points (69-49) on a lay-up with just 2:37 left in the game. The Rambelles made a valiant effort, however they were out-rebounded by the Lady Buffs 33-16 and out-shot 63 percent to 37 percent from the floor. West Texas A&M held the advantage in assists (27-to-9) and scored 27 points off of turnovers en route to a 71-56 victory.
West Texas A&M was led by Simmons who registered a team-best 19 points, eight rebounds, two assists and one block. Robertson contributed 18 points, eight boards, five assists and two steals, while Casey Land added 10 points, two boards, nine assists and two steals.
The Belles look to get back on the winning track on Wednesday, Feb. 16, when they host Lone Star Conference foe Eastern New Mexico. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. Live stats and live video are available.
