‘Belles Look to Strikeout Cancer

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team will be “Battlin' Cancer, One Pitch at a Time” during the April 8-9 series against Eastern New Mexico in an effort to raise awareness for young adult cancer.

During the ninth annual National Young Adult Cancer Awareness Week, the Rambelles will be selling T-shirts and LIVESTRONG bracelets with proceeds benefiting the LIVESTRONG Young Adult Alliance to help raise awareness of the 70,000 young adults between the ages of 15-40 that are diagnosed with cancer each year. T-shirts are available for $12, while LIVESTRONG wristbands will be available for $2 each.

ASU will also have in-game promotions and raffles with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting Texas Woman's softball player Abby Burns, in her fight against acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The Rambelles will be signing game balls and a helmet that will be auctioned off over the weekend. Fans will also have the opportunity to make a per-hit donation. For more information on Abby Burns' story, log on to TWUAthletics.com.

Angelo State tight end and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma survivor Nate Bayless will be recognized Friday by throwing out the first pitch. Whether he will throw it underhand is yet to be determined.
