STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Angelo State women's basketball (7-6, 5-2 Lone Star Conference) will look to continue and build on its strong start to 2012 as it travels to Tarleton State (9-5, 6-0 LSC) for a showdown against the TexAnns on Wednesday inside the Wisdom Gym with a tip-off slated for 6 p.m.

The Belles hold a narrow 22-20 advantage over TSU in the all-time matchup between the schools, including a split of the two games last season. The Belles won the more recent contest, a 70-57 victory at home last February in the regular-season finale over the 16-ranked TexAnns.

ASU went 2-0 last week in its first contests of 2012 against LSC foes Texas A&M-Kingsville on Wednesday, 68-47, in San Angelo then again on the road at Incarnate Word, 63-57, last Saturday.

Angelo State extended its streak of holding opponents to 60 points or fewer to eight games as they allowed only 52.0 points per game in the two wins. The Belles are still first in scoring (50.6) and field goal defense (.321) and second in blocked shots (4.3) within conference play.

Freshman Haylee Oliver led the team in scoring in both games last week, including 16 versus Incarnate Word. Oliver is the Belles top overall scorer at 11.5 points per contest, but has raised her average to nearly 14 points per game in LSC play. The San Saba native averaged 22 points in the Belles two wins last week and shot over .500 from the field, .400 from downtown, and nearly .900 from the free throw line.

Senior Paige Weishuhn is second on the team in scoring (11.3 PPG) and rebounding (6.3 RPG) and has a team-leading 18 blocks. Lauren Holt tied a career-high in rebounds with 11 caroms on Saturday and is averaging a team-leading 6.5 boards per game.

The TexAnns are off to a strong start again this season and are currently in first place in the LSC standings with their recent win coming against West Texas A&M, 69-62, on Saturday. Ronnie Hearn is in his ninth season at Tarleton State and recently celebrated his 1,000 career victory as a head coach.

Tarleton's Shelby Adamson is the TexAnns top overall scorer with 207 points (14.8 PPG) and playmaker with 67 assists. Kiara Wright leads the team with 16.0 points per game mark during LSC play.
