Rambelles Make 12-Stroke Improvement, Finish 8th at Oklahoma Intercollegiate

LAWTON, Okla. – The Angelo State golf team cut 12 strokes off its opening round with a final round 308 on Tuesday to finish the Oklahoma Intercollegiate in eighth place at the par-72 Fort Sill Golf Course.

ASU finished with a two-day total of 628 which was ahead of Lone Star Conference foes Texas A&M-Commerce (633), Incarnate Word (634) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (652). Midwestern State won the tournament with a 586, while Tarleton State (591) took second and Cameron (610) and West Texas A&M (620) took sixth and seventh, respectively.

Courtney Rutledge and Krista Czarnecki led the Rambelles at the tournament with both golfers finishing the tournament in a tie for 31st after carding a 36-hole total of 156. Rutledge bounced back from an opening round of 80 to shoot a 76 (+4) on Tuesday, while Czarnecki remained consistent with two rounds of 78.

Abby Bobo finished the Oklahoma Intercollegiate in 37th after carding a 157 (76-81) with Ashley Bartholomew shooting an 82-77 – 159 for a 44th place showing. Freshman Elizabeth Chavarria improved four shots from first round to final with a 78 on Tuesday to claim 48th in the field.

The tournament was the fourth and final contest on the Rambelles fall schedule.

“We had solid ball striking again today but we did struggle some with our putting,” ASU coach Kathleen Price said. “That's what we are going to concentrate on in the offseason. We need to continue improving our short game and I really think we are on the verge of breaking out and playing some really solid golf in the spring. I'm anxious to get into the offseason and give ourselves an opportunity to improve.”

Tarleton State's Jacqueline Lau won the tournament after shooting a 3-under par 69 on Tuesday  to follow up carding a 72 on Monday. Lau's tournament score of 141 just edged Midwestern State's Brenna Moore who took second place with a 72-70 – 142.
