Rambelles End Regular Season With 1-0 OT Win Over UIW

SAN ANTONIO – Kayla Gregory broke a 96-minute scoring drought to lift the Angelo State soccer team to a 1-0 overtime win over Incarnate Word on Friday at Gayle and Tom Ben Stadium in the Rambelles final regular-season game of the season.

The Rambelles (10-7-1, 8-5-1 LSC) will be the third seed and will play Texas Woman's at noon on Thursday in the conference tournament which will be hosted by West Texas A&M next week. The shutout was the seventh of the season for the ASU defense and the Rambelles finish the regular season winning five of their last seven games.

Gregory's goal was her second of the year and came on Lauren Bateman's first assist of the season. The Rambelles are now 5-4 on the road and 2-0-1 in overtime games this season.

"The first first thing I saw was Bateman win the ball so I backed in and she played a perfect ball through," Gregory said. "I had one touch and saw the keeper come out and slammed it back post because she came out too far."

ASU finished the game with 12 shots with Maggie Schaffer having three, while Katie Squires, Bateman and Gregory each finishing with two shots. ASU goalkeeper Danielle Edwards recorded seven saves in the match for her seventh shutout of the season.

UIW (9-5 LSC) will go into the conference tournament as the second seed and receive a bye in the first round. ASU and the Cardinals split their regular season meetings and would meet in the second round with a Rambelle win in the first round.
