SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State volleyball team is third in the first NCAA Division II South Central rankings of the season which were released on Wednesday.
The ninth-ranked Belles are 22-3 overall this season and find themselves behind Regis (16-3) and Colorado School of Mines (19-3). ASU is currently on a nine-game winning streak and has won 17 of 18, but did lose head-to-head matches against Regis and Colorado School of Mines at the Colorado Premiere which was played in Denver, Colo. in early September.
"We knew coming into this first regional ranking that our losses to Regis and Colorado School of Mines would have an impact on where we were ranked," ASU head coach
Chuck Waddington said. "Third is solid and gives us something to shoot for. We are pleased with third, but are shooting for something higher. We are just going to take care of what we can from our side.
Arkansas-Fort Smith is ranked fourth in the region with a 20-1 record, while West Texas A&M is fifth at 17-4 this season – including splitting its two matches against ASU. Tarleton State is the only other LSC team ranked and come in ninth.
The Belles return to action at 7 p.m. on Friday at Incarnate Word before traveling to play at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
