SAN ANGELO – Caitlyn Conaway scored her first career goal and the Angelo State defense continued to dominate as the Rambelles earned a 1-0 Lone Star Conference win over Texas Woman's on Friday at the ASU Soccer Field.
The Rambelles (6-5-1, 4-3-1) avenged a 1-2 loss to TWU two weeks ago and shut out their opponent for the fourth time this season. ASU, which has struggled scoring this season, received its goal in the 19
th minute of play when Conaway scored off an assist from
Jordan Benfield. The play originated on a corner kick where Benfield sent it into the goal and then found it return to her.
“They partially cleared it but Jordan was right there and awake and collected it and recycled it to Conaway,” ASU head coach
Travis McCorkle said. “She gave it the old right-footed ninja kick into the upper 90 for the win.”

Angelo State limited TWU (5-5-2, 4-3-1 LSC) to two shots in the first half and to four in the second half. Danielle Edwards came up five saves in the game and now has 44 this season to go along with her fourth shutout.
“I haven't had any complaints all season defensively and that continued today,” McCorkle said. “There were some little things that we can improve on, but overall we played great again. We solved the small problems we were having with some better matchups and it all worked out for us.”
The Rambelles finished the game with 11 shots, with Conaway having two headers along with her goal while
Sierra Anderson had two shots on goal.
Katie Squires,
Ashley Exford,
Hanna Horeis,
Maggie Schaffer,
Lauren Carnes and
Kat Monroe also added offensive pressure with each adding one shot.
ASU returns to action at 1 p.m. on Sunday against Texas A&M-Commerce at the ASU Soccer Field.
“We have been in a trend of winning one and then losing one,” McCorkle said. “We have to stop that and get on a winning streak. We are playing Commerce who are similar to TWU and we have to be ready. It's going to be a really physical game with both teams being tired but we have to come out focused and ready to earn a win.”
