San Angelo, TX –
The 21st ranked West Texas A&M Buffaloes (5-1, 4-0) remained undefeated in the Lone Star Conference with a 35-9 victory over the Angelo State Rams (3-3, 2-1) on a cold and windy night at San Angelo Stadium.

Buffalo quarterback Dustin Vaughan completed 16 of 32 passes for 236 yards and three touchdowns, running back Khiry Robinson ran for a career-high 145 yards on 18 carries and free safety Curtis Slater intercepted two passes, returning one for a second half touchdown.

West Texas A&M kicker Sergio Castillo added a pair of field goals and receiver Torrence Allen had two touchdown receptions.

Angelo State quarterback Blake Hamblin completed 23 of 52 passes for 264 yards and a touchdown.  Receivers C.J. Akins and Dekarai Pecikonis each had seven receptions for the Rams, combining for 134 yards and a score.

The West Texas A&M defense stymied the Angelo State offense deep in Buffalo territory several times.
ASU was 0-for-3 inside the red-zone with two missed field goals and an interception.

The West Texas A&M defense limited Angelo State to just 49 yards rushing and held the Rams to just 6 of 21 on third down attempts.

The Rams drove deep into Buffalo territory twice in the third quarter with chances to keep the game close, but couldn't convert.

Jonathan Family blocked a Kevin VanVoris punt giving ASU the ball at the West Texas A&M 37-yard line with the score still 18-3.

But on third and ten, Hamblin's pass was tipped, intercepted by Slater and returned 85 yards for a touchdown to increase the West Texas A&M lead to 25-3.

On its next possession, ASU drove 67 yards to the Buffalo 9-yard line, but Slater stepped in front of a Ram receiver at the five yard line and returned it to the West Texas A&M 44-yard line.

West Texas A&M converted the turnover into a score as Castillo kicked his second field goal of the game, a 32-yard field attempt to increase the Buffalo lead to 28-3.

Angelo State scored its only touchdown of the game on the first play of the fourth quarter as Hamblin hit Pecikonis on a 20-yard scoring pass to cut the lead to 28-9 as the Rams missed the extra point.

The Buffaloes scored their final touchdown on a 23-yard scoring pass from Vaughan to Allen after taking over at the ASU 35-yard line after stopping the Rams from converting on a fake punt.

West Texas A&M led 18-3 at the half thanks to a big-play offense and a defense that made key plays on third down.

The Buffaloes had 265 yards of total offense, 101 yards on the ground and 164 through the air while holding Angelo State to just 141 first half yards, 22 on the ground while ASU was successful on just 2 of 9 third down conversions.

After building an 8-3 first quarter lead, the Buffaloes took advantage of a Ram miscue to start the second quarter.

On the second play of the second quarter the Angelo State special teams turned the ball over, snapping it over the head of ASU punter Dustin Vaughan where the Buffaloes recovered at the Ram three yard line.

But Angelo State's defense held the Buffaloes out of the end zone and West Texas A&M settle for a 24-yard field goal from Castillo and an 11-3 lead.

Vaughan threw his second touchdown pass of the half, a 23-yard completion to Nathan Slaughter with just over four minutes left in the half.

It capped the second 80-yard scoring drive of the half for the Buffaloes and for the second time on the night, a long run by Robinson preceded the touchdown.

Robinson ripped off a 46-yard run on third and 10 from the Buffalo 20-yard line.  He then converted on fourth and one from the ASU 25-yard line with a two-yard run and on the next play the Buffaloes scored.

Angelo State had opportunities in the second quarter, but went 0-for-2 inside the red zone.

The Rams drove to the Buffalo eight-yard line, but were stopped by the West Texas A&M defense and Jarred Martin missed a 26-yard field goal.

That was followed up by the West Texas A&M touchdown drive.

ASU responded by driving 52 yards to the Buffalo 11-yard line, but Martin couldn't convert on a 39-yard field goal.
West Texas A&M led 8-3 at the end of the first quarter, compiling 155 yards, 80 of those on the quarter's only touchdown drive.

Angelo State actually scored first after stopping the Buffaloes on third down at the Ram 43-yard line on the first drive of the game.

ASU took over after just a 7-yard West Texas A&M punt and drove 40 yards to the Buffalo 30-yard line where Martin converted a 40-yard field goal to give the Rams a 3-0 lead.

West Texas A&M answered by driving 80 yards in six plays with Allen catching an 11-yard touchdown pass from Vaughan.  The Buffaloes converted a two-point conversion on a pass from John McSheffery to Robinson.

Consecutive big plays set up the touchdown for the Buffaloes.  Vaughan completed a 42-yard pass to Alphonse Coleman and on the next play Robinson ran for 36 yards down to the Angelo State six-yard line.
