SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State women's basketball team opens its season tomorrow at 6 p.m. with a game versus St. Edward's at Stephens Arena inside the Junell Center.
 
Sally Walling Brooks is at the helm of the Belles for a 13
th season. The Belles have nine returning from a team that went 13-15 but advanced to the LSC semi-final game last year.  ASU had a 8-4 record at Stephens Arena inside the Junell Center. Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year 
Haylee Oliver highlights the returning group.
 
Oliver is the top scorer returning for the Belles at 11.1 points per game. The sophomore will be accompanied by seniors 
Ashley James and 
Morgan Youngblood. Juniors 
Lauren Holt and 
Leah LeMaire provide experience for a team that has nine underclassmen.
 
The sophomores include 
Sierra Honea, 
Karli Kellermeier, Oliver, 
Cassi Stegall, 
Devon Wilde and St. Mary's transfer 
Chesney Neely. Freshmen that will battle for playing time will be 
Jennifer Lapp, Bria Platenburg, 
Faith Hunt and 
Amanda Weaver.
 
St. Edward's comes in with new head coach J.J. Riehl. The Hilltoppers are 1-1 on the season with a win over New Mexico Highlands before falling to Tiffon on Saturday.
 
Maddie Wheeler is leading the team at 14.0 points per game while Dawn Keil is averaging 12.5 points per game. Stephanie Dekkers is averaging nine points per game and 4.5 assists per game.
 
The Belles hold a 12-7 series advantage over the Hilltoppers.
