Angelo State and TWU split their two matches against each other this season with the Belles earning a 3-1 (25-19, 25-22, 22-25, 25-17) win at home on Oct. 5. The Pioneers took a 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23) victory over ASU last Saturday in the regular-season finale in Denton.
“We didn't do enough little things at the right time to win last weekend,” said ASU head coach
Chuck Waddington of last week's loss. “We were in every set, but they beat us because we didn't match their intensity or do the things that make us a great team.”
The Belles come into tonight's match with a 12-0 record this season in the Junell Center and have won 13 of their last 14 matches overall.
Alex Woolsey enters the night with 1,246 assists on the season, while
Shelbi Goode has 385 kills,
Maddie Huth has 102 blocks and
Shelby Wilt has 565 digs to lead the ASU statistical departments. Huth leads the Belles with 31 kills in the two matches played against TWU, while Woolsey is averaging 12.12 assists per set against the Pioneers.
TWU has won eight of its last nine matches after recording its win over A&M-Commerce last night. The Pioneers are a deep team that has a .231 hitting percentage this season (.154 against Angelo State). Viktorija Jablonska leads TWU with 381 kills (.316 hitting percentage), while Chloe' Tate has 109 blocks and 265 kills.
“We have to score in transition and our block needs to be really strong against their attack,” Waddington said. “When they are in system they are one of the strongest teams in the region. If they are doing what they want, then it will be a very tough match for us. We have to serve strong and get them out of system.”
