SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State volleyball team defeated Incarnate Word, 3-0 (25-19, 31-29, 25-11) in San Antonio, behind double-digit kills from
Emily Booth,
Shelbi Goode and
Maddie Huth.
The Belles (23-3, 16-1 LSC) pushed their conference road record to 6-1 and stay in first place in the conference standings. The Cardinals fall to 8-17 and 5-11 in the LSC. It is the 17
th sweep of the season for the Belles.
“I was impressed with how Incarnate Word played tonight,” ASU head coach
Chuck Waddington said after the match. “They were scrappy and really pushed us and it made us play hard to win. They were missing a few players but it didn't matter. They always play super hard and I am always impressed with that from the Cardinals.”
Booth, Good and Huth all recorded 10 kills while
Katie Coleman chipped in eight.to lead the attack ASU hit .264 as a team compared to .114 for the Cardinals.
Alex Woolsey had 41 assists and four kills and is now only 54 assists away from the career record at ASU.
Shelby Wilt collected 18 digs with
Kaelen Valdez contributing 13 digs.
“We talked in the locker room about not making any major changed but by doing everything just a little bit better,” Waddington said. “We wanted to pay more attention to the little things. We came out more focused on our blocking and ball control and I thought everybody played well tonight.”
Incarnate Word was led by Stephanie Bonura's 12 kills. Sarah Cardenas recorded a double-double with 11 assists and 11 digs.
The Belles will now head to Kingsville to face Texas A&M-Kingsville at 1 p.m.
“We need to start strong and finish strong tomorrow against Texas A&M-Kingsville to come out with a victory,” Waddington said.
