Belles Fall in Exhibition Game Against Lubbock Christian


SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State Belles took an 83-65 exhibition loss to Lubbock Christian on Tuesday at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.

Karli Kellermeier led Angelo State with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Haylee Oliver scored 10 points and had six rebounds. The Belles trailed 34-31 at halftime but were outscored 49-34 by the Lady Chaparrals. LCU (3-0) is ranked No. 1 in the NAIA and counts the exhibition toward its official record, while the game does not count for Angelo State.

Giselle Aguirre added nine points and a team-leading three assists to ASU effort with Faith Hunt scoring seven and Cassi Stegall and Jennifer Lapp each going for six points. Aguirre made three 3-pointers in the game, while Kellermeier, Oliver and Hunt each knocked down one trey.

Haley Burton led Lubbock Christian with 23 points, while Nicole Hampton scored 18 and Kelsey Hoppel supplied 12. LCU made 11 3-pointers in the game on 25 attempts (44-percent) and shot 52.5 percent from the floor. ASU was held to a 41.0 percentage from the floor and were 6 for 18 from beyond the arc.

Angelo State plays its first official game next Tuesday at 6 p.m. against St. Edward's University at the Junell Center.
