Belles Beat Texas A&M-Commerce 67-57

SAN ANGELO, Texas –
The Angelo State women's basketball team had four players score in double figures in a 67-57 win over Texas A&M-Commerce in Commerce.

The Belles (5-4, 3-1) won their third Lone Star Conference game by outrebounding one of the league's top rebounding teams 47-35. ASU is now 2-0 on the road while Texas A&M-Commerce falls to 3-3 and 1-2 in the LSC.

“We played hard and with confidence on both ends,” head coach Sally Walling Brooks said after the game. “Outrebounded a great rebounding team and finally had balanced scoring. It was a very good team win.”

Lauren Holt was the Belles top scorer with 15 points. Leah LeMaire, Haylee Oliver and Cassi Stegall all added 14 points. Oliver recorded her third-straight double-double of the season and set a new career high with 15 rebounds. Karli Kellemier added a career high 11 boards in the win.

The Belles got up early on Texas A&M-Commerce (3-3, 1-2) after a 13-2 run early in the first half. Oliver was active in the first half with seven points and 11 rebounds.

The Lions battled back before the half using their own 13-7 run to cut ASU's lead to 26-20 at the half.

In the second half, ASU extended its lead to 13 points at 51-38 before Texas A&M-Commerce made it interesting. The Lions went on a 14-8 run and was within four points at the 4:45 mark in the second half. LeMaire scored six of the Belles final 10 points to keep the Belles on top.

Breanna Harris led the Lions with 15 points and nine rebounds. 

The Belles will return to the court on Tuesday, Dec. 18 in Laredo, Texas, to face Texas A&M-International. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
