SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State women's basketball team added another member to its 2012-13 recruiting class with the signing of Bria Platenburg as announced by Belles head coach Sally Brooks on Wednesday.
A 5-9 forward from Frisco, Platenburg will join a Belles sqaud fresh off of advancing back to the Lone Star Conference semifinals for the first time in four seasons and returning 10 players for the upcoming 2012-13 season.
Platenburg lettered all four seasons in high school at the varsity level playing two years at George Mason High School in Virginia before moving to Frisco Wakeland High School her final two years. As a freshman and sophomore at George Mason, Platenburg earned second team All-District leading the Mustangs win two consecutive state championships.
After moving to Texas for her junior and senior campaigns, Platenburg was named First Team All-District in 9-4A as a senior at Wakeland while leading the Lady Wolverines to the playoffs in both seasons. Her best performance this past year was a 26-point, 11 rebound outing against Lubbock Coronado from Class 5A.
Platenburg's teams won at least 24 games every year while losing only one during district play in her four-year career.
“Bria would be one of the more athletic girls that we've signed in a while,” Brooks said. “She'll help us with her versatility. As far as defensively she'll be able to defend post players and guards because she's quick. I also think she can defend down at the low post because of her quickness.”
Platenburg becomes the fourth member of 2012-13 class joining early signees Faith Hunt, Jennifer Lapp and Amanda Weaver.
