SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State volleyball team spent Tuesday morning on the Stephens Arena court practicing before hearing welcomed news that the afternoon session had been canceled to give the team time to relax and recover from their intense training the past eight days.
ASU will scrimmage Hardin-Simmons at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at the Junell Center in its second scrimmage of the preseason. The Belles, who played Western Texas College last week, will wrap up this week with a scrimmage at Texas-Permian Basin on Saturday in their final action against an opponent before the season starts.
“We want to see who fits in well with others on the court,” ASU head coach
Chuck Waddington said. “We want to see who helps us succeed. I'd like to see us finish games off. There have been a few times when we have gotten up and had opportunities to seal games but we let teams make runs. I'd like to see us get in those positions and finish.”
Angelo State is coming off a 31-6 record in 2011 and won their first NCAA Division II tournament match in 20 seasons. The Belles open their season at the Rattler-Hilltopper Classic on Aug. 31 with a doubleheader against Southeastern Oklahoma and St. Mary's in San Antonio.
