No. 15 Belles Earn Sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma, Move to 3-0

AUSTIN  – Alex Woolsey recorded 41 assists and No. 15 Angelo State swept its third straight opponent with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 27-25) win over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday at the Hilltopper/Rattler Classic being played at St. Edward's Recreation and Convocation Center.

Box Score

The Belles (3-0) return to action at 7 p.m. against the Hilltoppers in the final match of the tournament. ASU knocked St. Edward's out of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional with a 3-2 win in Warrensburg, Mo.

Shelbi Goode and Kaelen Valdez each had 13 kills for the Belles, while Shelby Wilt led the team with 15 digs. Goode, who has a team-leading 37 kills through the first three matches, also added 10 digs against SWOSU (0-3). Woolsey now has 3,808 assists for her career after compiling 117 through the first three matches of her senior season.

ASU has now swept its first three opponents this season but was forced past the 25-point mark for the first time after a third set which the Belles won, 27-25.

“We hit for a real high percentage which was good but we made way too many errors in the third set,” ASU head coach Chuck Waddington said. “We weren't playing very well but came back to win that third set to sweep them. That's good to see that we can do that but that's not the position we want to be in. We have guts and don't lie down, but we have to start playing a cleaner style game.”

Angelo State was outblocked in the match, 7-3, and committed 11 errors in the third set. The first and second set saw a combined seven errors from the Belles.
