SAN ANGELO – Terrorizing the Abilene Christian offense throughout Angelo State's 28-23 win on Saturday has earned Ram linebacker
Rush Seaver the Lone Star Conference's Defensive Player of the Week award.
“Rush has been performing at a very high level all season and he continued to do that on Saturday,” ASU defensive coordinator Mike Walton said. “He really executed the game plan really well, especially in pass coverage. We were zoning him up and he did a great job for us.”
“Our d-line basically did it all for me,” Seaver added. “They did their job and I did my job. It got our confidence up but we play one week to the next. Our focus is on Eastern New Mexico right now and that's where it has to be.”
Seaver, a sophomore from Lampasas, led Angelo State with 2.5 sacks and eight tackles to earn his career's first conference honor. The Rams' defense limited ACU to nine rushing yards, had seven sacks, forced two turnovers and held the Wildcats to 317 yards of total offense.
“I'm really just playing to the ball and staying on my assignments,” Seaver said.
Seaver leads the Rams with 43 tackles this season and has three tackles for loss. His season includes recording 14 tackles against Western Colorado, 13 against Chadron State and eight against Valdosta State.
“He's the type of player that can do a lot of things for a defense,” Walton said. “He does well out in space and is a very complete linebacker. He's a young player that makes some mistakes on occasion but he makes up for it with effort. The sky is really the limit for him.”
