No. 11 Belles Defeat Eastern New Mexico 3-0

BOX SCORE

PORTALES, N.M. –
The No. 11 Angelo State volleyball team was down 14 points in its first set to Eastern New Mexico but fought back to win the set and the match 3-0 (25-23, 25-7, 25-12) at Greyhound Arena on Friday night.

The Belles (13-2, 6-0 LSC) won their eighth-straight overall and sixth-straight LSC match after withstanding a hot start from ENMU (5-9, 1-4 LSC). Shelbi Goode led all players with 10 kills and Kaelen Valdez had a season-high 23 digs.

“The first set was crazy,” ASU head coach Chuck Waddington said. "Eastern New Mexico was all over us. We called a couple of timeouts and put in a couple of subs in and did what we could to try and slow things down.”

Down by 14 points on two separate occasions in the first set, Goode led the Belles with six kills. Chelsea Gibson and Arielle Bond both recorded three kills in the first set to change the momentum.  ASU went on a 21-4 run to close out the set.

“It's nice to see that we can respond to something like that,” Waddington said.

ASU turned up the pressure in the second and third set hitting a .368 and .357, respectively. Maddie Huth and Gibson added six kills while Bond finished with seven kills.

The Belles return to action tomorrow afternoon to face No. 5 West Texas A&M in Canyon at 2 p.m.
