SAN ANGELO – Maddie Huth had 14 kills and
Shelby Wilt contributed 21 digs to help lead the Angelo State volleyball team to a Lone Star Conference sweep (25-13, 25-23, 25-17) of Eastern New Mexico on Friday at the Junell Center.
The No. 7 Belles (11-2, 4-0 LSC) extended their regular-season home winning streak to 24 matches and will now face No. 11 West Texas A&M (13-3, 3-0 LSC) at 2 p.m. on Saturday. WT also took care of its Friday match, winning in four sets at Tarleton State.
"We are trying to be consistent this season and that's what we did tonight," said Huth, who also had a .407 hitting percentage and two blocks in the match. "We weren't going to overlook them just because we have a big match tomorrow. This was good and tomorrow should be a fun game."
Wilt had her season high with the 21 digs, while setter
Maggi Jo Keffury supplied 42 assists and eight digs. The Belles hit .236 in the match and limited the Zias (4-9, 2-2 LSC) to a .049 hitting percentage. Angelo State committed only 16 attacking errors on the night and had nine players contribute digs on the defensive side of the court.
"We just played a very clean match overall," Huth said. "We executed really well with MJ (Keffury) on-point throughout the match. She delivered the ball really well all around the court to set us up."
Haley Bianco added 14 digs with
Arielle Bond providing nine kills and
Leah McWilliams finishing with eight kills and seven digs.
Kaelen Valdez finished the match with a .444 hitting percentage, four kills and seven blocks.
Lauren Frye led ENMU with 11 kills in the match with Karra Day having 19 assists and Hayley Couch 25 digs. The Zias will play at Tarleton State on Saturday.
The Belles have now won five straight matches and are 7-0 at home this season. Huth now has 899 kills in her career after her 14 kills and is now 15th in program history.
