Rams Win 49-24 Over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Senior Night

SAN ANGELO
– Kyle Washington accounted for five touchdowns, including a career high four passing touchdowns, to lead Angelo State to a 49-28 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday at San Angelo Stadium.

The Rams (4-6, 2-4 LSC) beat Texas A&M-Kingsville (2-7, 0-6 LSC) for the first time since 2006. ASU outgained the Javelinas 442-388 with 232 yards coming on the ground.

TAMU-Kingsville would score on the opening drive of the game going 70 yards in seven play scoring on a Robert Armstrong two yard rush.

After the two teams traded punts, the Rams would find their offense. Jermie Calhoun broke a 21-yard run down the sideline and one play later Washington hit Quinn Reels for a 17-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at seven.

Washington would find Reels again in the middle of the second quarter this time on a 20-yard pass to give ASU a 14-7 advantage that would hold until halftime.

The Rams punted on their first possession of the second half but the defense would force its second turnover of the game.

Texas A&M-Kingsville's Caleb Bedford tried to throw a ball to the flats and Jonathan Family stepped in front for the interception and returned it 21-yards for a touchdown. The Ram defense forced three interceptions on the night and it is the 18th straight game to force a turnover.

The Javelinas responded two drives later with an Armstrong five yard touchdown reception from Bedford to bring Texas A&M-Kingsville to within seven at 21-14.

ASU took the ensuing drive and covered 68 yards in 10 plays with Washington throwing his third touchdown of the day. The receiver this time was Talon Smith on a five-yard pass to go up 28-14.

The Rams would extend their lead in the fourth quarter by scoring on three straight drives. Washington would take the ball up the field 45-yards for his only rushing touchdown and threw a career high fourth passing touchdown on a 45 yard strike to Anthony Yancy.

Backup quarterback Cameron Waites led the Rams on their final scoring drive hitting James Hurd on a 30 yard pass before taking it in from 10 yards out for a touchdown.

The Javelinas would score twice in the final three minutes.

Washington finished the night with 136 yards rushing on 15 carries and threw the ball for 180 yards on 15-of-25 passing.
Jarred Ross and Nekechie Miller grabbed the Rams other two interceptions and Rush Seaver led all tacklers with 13 total tackles.

It was the final home game for Angelo Stat seniors  Joey Knight, Joey Searcy II, Ross, Miller, Courtney Moore, Kyle Patterson, Anthony Lewis, Isi Cocker, Alex Young, Jared Beebe, Reels, Jermie Calhoun and Excelle Osborne.

The Rams will wrap up their season next week in San Antonio against Incarnate Word at 2 p.m.
