Belles Host Incarnate Word In Final Game of 2013

The Angelo State women's basketball team will play an exhibition game for its final game of 2013 on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Incarnate Word at Stephens Arena inside the Junell Center.

The Belles are 6-4 after holding Schreiner to the fewest points in a single game in program history. ASU held the Mountaineers to 16.7-percent shooting for the entire game. It was the Belles fourth win in their last five games.

Incarnate Word is 6-4 on the season and it will be the second meeting this season between the two schools. The Cardinals defeated St. Thomas on Wednesday night to snap a four-game losing streak. The Belles won the first meeting on Nov. 30 in Canyon. Amanda Weaver scored a career high 18 points to lead ASU to a 58-43 win. ASU holds a 16-8 series advantage.

ASU is 2-2 at the Junell Center and are holding teams to 54.8 points per game which is slightly above the season average of 52.9.  The Belles are out rebounding teams by eight rebounds a game at home and hold a 3.0 turnover margin advantage.

The last five games have seen the Belles turn up the defense. Opponents are only scoring 49.0 points per game and hitting 33.3-percent of shots from the field. The Belles have forced 16.0 turnovers per game in the last five games. ASU's shooting percentages have increased in the last five games with the Belles hitting 44.7-percent from the field and 40.0-percent from the three-point line compared to 39.9-percent from the field and 32.6-percent from behind the arch on the season.

The duo of Hillari Adam and Weaver has been the top scorers on the season and especially in the last five games. Adam is averaging 13.8 points per game and Weaver is scoring 11.8 points per game.  Adam has hit 56.5-percent of her shots from the field and 57.1-percent from the three-point line in the last five games. Weaver, tops in the Lone Star Conference in three pointers made, has made 46.7-percent of her threes this season and in the last five games the sophomore has sunk 50.0-percent (15-of-30).

Rochelle Norris has chipped in 8.6 points per game in the last five games which is an increase from her 7.7 points per game on the season. Khalisha Lee had her best game of the season against Schreiner. The junior recorded a career high with eight points and seven rebounds in the win.

Karli Kellermeier and Leah LeMaire are both scoring 7.6 and 7.0 points per game, respectively over the last five games. Kellermeier is averaging 6.0 rebounds per game and leads the Belles with 10 steals in the last five. Kellermeier is the team leader in steals on the season with 21 and was named the LSC Defensive Player of the Week to start the season.
