SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State women's basketball team loss to Tarleton State 75-48 in a Lone Star Conference game at Wisdom Gym in Stephenville on Wednesday night.
The Belles (8-12, 5-9 LSC) dropped their fifth-straight road loss and struggled shooting only 39.2-percent from the field compared to Tarleton State's (15-4, 11-2 LSC) 52.9-percent. ASU forced 17 TexAnn turnovers but Tarleton State was able to score 24 points off of 16 ASU turnovers.
The first half started with the two teams exchanging baskets and a 6-6 tie at the 15:51 mark. Over the next five minutes the TexAnns used a 13-2 run that included three-straight offensive rebounds by TSU. The 11 point lead and run was stopped by
Haylee Oliver's layup to make the score 19-10 with 10:29 to play in the first half.
ASU would use the final 10 minutes to chip away at the lead built by Tarleton State. A 9-2 run by ASU with a big 3-pointer by Karli Kellermierer would cut deficit to six points at the 3:52 mark. TSU would extend its lead to 10 points but a quick 5-0 run would make it a five point game. TSU's Kiara Wright hit a layup with 20 seconds left to make the halftime score 33-26.
The Belles score a quick bucket to start the second half before TSU responded with a 27-4 run over the next 11 minutes of the game. The TexAnns would outscore ASU 42-22 in the second half.
Lauren Holt scored eight of her 10 points in the second half.
Oliver scored nine of her team high's 11 points in the first half. Holt also added six rebounds.
Peyton Adamson led Tarleton State with 17 points. Kiara Wright chipped in 15 points and 16 rebounds for the TexAnns.
The Belles return to the court on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. to take on Texas A&M-Commerce at Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.
