Belles Rebound With 64-50 Win Over Lions


SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State women's basketball team defeated Texas A&M Commerce 64-50 in a Lone Star Conference game at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center on Saturday night.

The Belles (9-12, 6-9 LSC) won their second consecutive home game by shooting 45.3 percent from the field, while holding A&M-Commerce (7-12, 5-9 LSC) to 23.2 percent.  ASU outrebounded the Lions 53-38 and scoring 17 second chance points to the Lions' 10. The Belles also outscored the Lions in the paint 42-18.  

In the first half the Belles came out fast going up 6-0 at the 17:45 mark. The Lions came within two at the 9:22 mark. Leah LeMaire with two quick buckets to give the Belles a six point lead with 6:41 left in the first half. The Lions then tied the game at 22 with 3:24 remaining. The Belles would then score seven straight points to end the half.

The Belles started the second half on a 15-0 run to give them a 44-24 advantage. The Belles got a second-half spark from Morgan Youngblood with back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Belles a 42-24 lead. The Lions would answer back with a 9-0 run to come within 11.

Karli Kellermeier had a career night with 11 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists; all career highs. Kellermeier lead the team in rebounds and assists. Lauren Holt led the Belles 15 points, while Leah Lemaire had 13.

Danielle Dixon led the Lions with 15 points, while Breanna Harris had 11 and Symone Brown scored 10. The Lions tied the game twice, but were never able to take the lead.   

Angelo State returns to action at 5:30 Wednesday against the Cameron Aggies in the Junell Center before they go on a three-game road trip.
