SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State softball team shutout Eastern New Mexico 8-0 for its fifth-straight win overall at the ASU Softball Complex on Friday evening.
The Rambelles (18-6, 4-0) scored eight runs on eight hits off of Eastern New Mexico (6-22, 0-4) with the biggest hit coming from
Morgan Spearman in the second inning.
The second inning started with
Darian Dunn getting her first of two hits on the day with a single to centerfield.
Ambra Hill would reach on a bunt to first base that advanced Dunn to second and
Holly Vanden Bossche would get hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Spearman was looking for redemption after grounding out to second in the first inning. The junior worked the count to 3-1 before driving a ball from EMU's Katie Ramsay to right field for a grand slam. It is her fifth home run of the season and fifth grand slam of her career. The junior finished the day going 2-for-3 with five RBI's.
Kacie Easley would provide two runs in the fourth with a double and
Lauren Smith hit a sacrifice fly that would score a run in the very next at bat to extend the lead to 8-0 after four.
Sandra Serna would take care of the Zias the rest of the way for her 11
th victory of the year. She only allowed four hits but did give up six walks. The Albuquerque, New Mexico, native forced the Zias into seven groundouts.
The Rambelles and Zias will play a double header tomorrow starting at 1 p.m. The first game will be carried locally on KKSA 1260AM with Jeremy Bryant on the call.
