Belles Fall to West Texas A&M

ALLEN, Texas –
 The Angelo State women's basketball team saw its season end with a 61-36 loss to West Texas A&M in the quarter-final of the LSC Championship in Allen on Thursday afternoon.
 
The Belles (14-13) struggled offensively shooting only 27.5-percent from the field. The 36 points is the lowest output of the season and lowest in LSC Championship history. The loss snapped a six game win streak for the Belles. West Texas A&M (19-11) shot 44.4-percent from the game and scored 17 points by way of the charity stripe.
 
The Lady Buffs started the game on a 17-3 run over the first 4:28 of the game. The Bells were held scoreless until Lauren Holt hit a 3-pointer at the 15:22 mark of the first half.  West Texas A&M would continue to score and close the half on a 8-2 to run to make it 32-14 at the half. The 18-point deficit is the largest the Belles have seen at half all season.
 
The Belles were held to 19.2-percent in the first half. WTAMU had two players in double figures in the first half with Casey Land and Chontiquah White each scoring 11. Holt was ASU's leading scorer with five points.
 
The second half would start with a 10-2 run by the Lady Buffs to make it 43-16 before a Leah LeMaire layup at the 13:39 mark. ASU would hit an 11-5 run with Haylee Oliver scoring 7 of the 11 points during the run.
 
Angelo State was outrebounded 40-25 for only the fourth time this season.
 
Oliver led the Belles in scoring with nine points and she grabbed five rebounds. Senior Morgan Youngblood would score two points and collect four rebounds in her final game as a Belle.
 
White led the Lady Buffs with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Land finished with 12 points and Devon Griffin scored 12 for West Texas A&M. The Lady Buffs move on to face Texas A&M-Commerce on Friday at 12 p.m.
 
The Belles finish the season at 14-13. It is the 11th winning season for head coach Sally Walling Brooks in her 13 seasons at ASU.
