Belles Set to Face No. 15 Tarleton State in Stephenville

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will face Lone Star Conference rival No. 15 Tarleton State in Stephenville on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at Wisdom Gym.

The Belles are 7-4 on the season and 1-0 in LSC play after defeated Texas A&M-Commerce 55-54 to open the LSC schedule. It is the fifth-straight year ASU has started the season with a win to open the conference schedule.

ASU defeated Texas A&M-Commerce 55-54 with a strong second half. Down 26-20 in the first half, the Belles stormed back behind 56-percent shooting in the second half. It marks the second time this season that the Belles trailed at halftime and came back to win.

The Belles recorded double-digit steals (15) for the sixth time this season against Texas A&M-Commerce. ASU is 6-0 this season when reaching double-digit steals. The Belles defense is scoring 53.0 points per game and is ranked fifth nationally.  

Angelo State is 2-2 on the road this season and is holding teams to 34.3-percent shooting and 57.0 points per game. The Belles hit 37.8-percent of their shots on the road.

Amanda Weaver led ASU in scoring with 16 points. The sophomore is averaging 9.5 points per game this season and it's the top scorer in road games at 11.8 per game. She is the conference leader in three point percentage made at 46.2-percent and No. 20 nationally.

Hillari Adam is second on the team in scoring on the road at 11.0 points per game. The junior is averaging 13.9 points per game this season and is sixth in the league in scoring and fourth in rebounds.

Rochelle Norris is scoring 8.0 points per game on the season and per road contest. The senior transfer is hitting 45.1-percent of her shots from the field.

Karli Kellermeier is the Belles leader in steals with 22. She is averaging 6.4 rebounds per game on the season and 6.8 rebounds on the road.

Senior Leah LeMaire has scored 6.5 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game but has slightly better stats on the road at 7.5 points per game and 5.0 rebounds.

Junior Haylee Oliver had her best game of the seasons with her six points and three assists. The San Saba native scored her points on two 3-point shots. Oliver is leading the team with 3.2 assists per game.

Tarleton State is 10-1 and on a seven game winning streak. The TexAnns defeated Texas Woman's 87-69 to open up their LSC schedule. Tarleton State is led by All-American Kiara Wright's 21.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. Brianna Bledsoe (12.9 ppg) and Kathy Thomas (10.8 ppg) also average in double figures for the TexAnns.

Tarleton State leads the overall series 25-22 with Angelo State. The Texanns have won the last three matchups and eight of the last 10. The last time the Belles won in Stephenville was on Feb. 4, 2005 in an 83-76 overtime victory.
