Belles take four-set loss at A&M-Commerce

COMMERCE –
The Angelo State volleyball team dropped back-to-back matches for the first time this season after falling 3-1 (22-25, 25-15, 12-25, 17-25 to Texas A&M-Commerce in a Lone Star Conference contest on Saturday at the Lion Field House.

The Belles (12-5, 6-4 LSC) committed 31 errors to the Lions' 21 errors a day after falling in four sets at Texas Woman's. The loss against A&M-Commerce(4-16, 2-8 LSC) puts ASU at 6-4 away from home this season and the team has now lost four of its last five conference matches after starting LSC play with a 5-0 record.

"From the outset, we came in high error," ASU head coach Chuck Waddington said. "We fought back nicely, but couldn't finish. Our court chemistry is not very smooth right now. We need to develop some killer instinct over the next week to hopefully get back on track."

After Saturday's result, the Belles and Lions split their season series after ASU had earned a sweep 25-20, 25-20, 25-16) on Tuesday, Sept. 30th in San Angelo.

Angelo State, which has played its last four matches on the road, returns home to play two LSC matches in the Junell Center. The Belles will start the weekend with a 7 p.m. Dig Pink match on Friday against Cameron and will then host Midwestern State at 2 p.m. on Saturday. ASU is 6-1 at home this season entering the seventh week of the season.

ASU was limited to a .046 attacking percentage by the Lions, including hitting .000 in the second set where it won 25-15. Brianna Sotello led the Belles with 11 kills and added 10 digs, while Shelby Wilt provided 29 assists and 11 digs. Katie MacLeay led the Belles with 22 digs from the libero position and Brooke Robertson had two service aces. Mallory Blauser finished the match with seven kills, 10 digs and a block and Zoey Hanrahan contributed five kills and two blocks. Daeleigh Castile led the Belles with four blocks and also had three kills.

Amy Devault led the Lions with 14 kills and added 14 digs, while Sydney Reyes produced a 10-kill match with a .267 attacking percentage and paced the team with four blocks. Ashley Mireles had a match-high 28 digs and Courtney Tate had 26 assist. The Lions finished the match with a .174 attacking percentage.
