Rams Face Eastern New Mexico in Regular-Season Home Finale

The Game
The Angelo State football team will play its final regular-season home game at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field as it hosts Eastern New Mexico for Military Appreciation Night and Senior Night on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. The game will be carried on KWFR 101.9FM The Fire with Jeremy Bryant (play-by-play) and Daniel Ramirez (color analyst) on the call.  

Eastern New Mexico
The Greyhounds are 4-3 this season and 2-3 in the Lone Star Conference after snapping a two-game winning streak in a 59-42 loss to Tarleton State. ENMU is 3-0 on the road this season with wins at Adams State, TAMUK and McMurry. Josh Lynn is in his second season at ENMU and has a 14-12 overall record. ENMU has the No. 9 ranked rushing defense in the nation and limit sopponents to just 87.1 yards per game. 

The Series
This will be the 39th meeting between the Rams and Greyhounds. ASU leads the all-time series 22-15-1 but have lost two of the last three. It is the 23rd meeting in San Angelo with the Rams holding a 15-7 advantage at home. ENMU has won the last two games in San Angelo by a combined three points. 

Racking Up Points 
The Rams continued scoring at a historic pace. The 57 points against Texas A&M-Kingsville is a season high and is the most points scored since hanging 61 on Incarnate Word in 2010. ASU is scoring 44.3 points per game which is No. 10 in NCAA Division II. The Rams have scored the most points, 266 total points, to open a season in school history. The ASU record for points scored in the regular season is 398 (36.1 per game) which was set in 1989. 

Senior Night 
The Rams will recognize 16 seniors playing in their final regular season home game. The seniors being honored prior to the game include Paul Mason, Dakarai Pecikonis, Blair Smith, Doug Elliot, Anthony Yancy, Blake Smith, Chris Omigie, Jarred Ross, Rush Seaver, Shonta Chaloux, Chas Freeman, Austin Landin, Watkin Cocker, Anthony Landry, Steven Jackson, and James Hurd

Takeaways
The Rams recorded a season-high five takeaways against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday. The five takeaways are the most since forcing seven versus TAMUK in 2011. It gives ASU 17 takeaways (11 interceptions, six fumbles) on the season. ASU has turned the 17 opponents turnovers into 94 points this season including a season-high 28 points on the Javelinas.  ASU has scored 13 touchdowns and one field goal from the 17 opponent turnovers. The 11 interceptions is ranked No. 21 in NCAA Division II and No. 1 in the LSC.  

Racking Up the Yards
The Rams made history on Saturday night with 615 yards of offense. It is the first time that an ASU team has accumulated at least 600 yards of offense twice in a single season. ASU put up 607 yards of offense in the season-opening win against Western State. The 615 yards of offense is the third most in school history in a single game behind 748 yards in 2005 and 650 yards in 2010.  

Catching Passes
A total of 11 different receivers caught a pass against Kingsville. Dakarai Pecikonis (4), James Hurd (4), Chris Omigie (3), Brett Rasberry (2), Ryan Byrd (2), Anthony Yancy (2), Talon Smith (2), Trevor Stafford (1), Zane Hernandez (1), Austin Gibson (1) and Grant Eubank (1) each were on the receiving end of a pass from either Kyle Washington, Warren Truesdale or Jacob Burtch. It was the first career reception for Eubank, Gibson and Stafford.  

No. 1 Kickoff Returns
The Rams are tops in the nation in kickoff returns. ASU averages 27.1 yards per kick return and has had four games of at least 100 return yards. Anthony Yancy is tops on the team in returns at 30.2 yards per return. He broke the ASU single game record for return yards with 195 yards against West Texas A&M. 

Special Teams Touchdown
ASU scored its second touchdown of the season on special teams last Saturday. Paul Mason returned a punt 41-yards in the second quarter. It is the second punt return touchdown of Mason's career and the first ASU punt return touchdown since 2012. The other special team touchdown was a 100-yard kickoff return by Anthony Yancy. 

The Offensive Line
The Rams offensive line continues to excel in pass blocking by only allowing four sacks this season. The .67 sacks per game ranks ASU at No. 9 in NCAA Division II and No. 1 in the LSC. The offensive line is also ranked in the top 10 in tackles for loss allowed. The Rams have only allowed 4.0 tackles for loss per game which is tied for No. 8 nationally. 

Six Touchdowns
The Rams scored a total of eight touchdowns against the Javelinas with Kyle Washington having a hand in six of them. The junior twice found the end zone on the ground while the other four were passing touchdowns to Talon Smith (twice), James Hurd and Brett Rasberry.

The Running Man 
Ryan Byrd set career highs in yards and carries on Saturday against Kingsville. The junior running back rushed for 143 yards on 17 carries while averaging 8.4 yard per carry. Byrd leads the Rams with 517 yards on the ground. He gains 7.1 yards per carry and 86.2 yards per game which is currently No. 5 in the LSC.

Moving Up Career Lists
Kyle Washington is moving up the ASU career record book. The junior is currently No. 5 on the ASU career total offense list with 5,811 yards, No. 9 in career passing with 4,136 yards and No. 8 in career rushing with 1,675 yards. The school record for total offense in a single season is 298.3 held by Josh Neiswander from 2010. He is currently No. 1 in the LSC and No. 9 nationally averaging 345.7 yards per game in total offense. 
     
Receiving Milestone
After spending last season rehabbing an injury, Dakarai Pecikonis returns to the Rams with a career record in reach. The senior wide receiver is third on the ASU all-time career receiving yards with 2,474. He is 237 yards from moving into No. 2 all-time and just 324 yards from passing Don Burrell for the top spot.  

Night Train
The Rams will be accustomed to playing under the lights this season. ASU has played five games under the lights with three more scheduled to be played at 7 p.m. The only two games not scheduled are the LSC Playoffs on November 8th and 15th. 

Coach To Cure MD
The Angelo State football staff along with the American Football Coaches Association raised awareness for and helped funding for Duchenne muscular dystrophy versus West Texas A&M as part of the Coach To Cure MD. The Rams had Sam Killian, who was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy in 2005, be a honorary captain for the game.  Killian's grandfather, Guy Hargrave, is an ASU alumnus. Career Nights
Kyle Washington, Dakarai Pecikonis and Clayton Callicutt had career nights against Western State. Washington threw for a career high 362 yards and two touchdowns. It is the ninth most passing yards in a single game in ASU history. Pecikonis caught nine passes from Washington for a career-high 163 yards. He is now 527 yards away from becoming ASU's career leader in receiving yards. Callicutt recorded three and a half sacks and five tackles for loss. Callicutt and the Ram defense held WSCU to just 288 yards of total offense. 

Team Captains
Dominique McCoy, Rush Seaver, Blake Smith, Warren Truesdale and Kyle Washington were selected as captains for the 2014 season by their teammates. Seaver, Truesdale and Washington were captains last season as well. 

Program Milestone

ESPN Top 10 Plays
Dakarai Pecikonis made an acrobatic catch in the third quarter. The 29-yard reception made it all the way to No. 5 on ESPN Sportscenter Top 10 Plays. It is the second time in two years the Rams have been showcased on Sportscenter. Last season, Jermie Calhoun scored a touchdown after leaping over a Black Hills State defender that went all the way to No. 1 before Peyton Manning threw seven touchdowns in a single game. 

New Defensive Coordinator
Girsch spent the last 17 years coaching at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, before being hired by Wagner. He has spent the last six years as defensive coordinator and assistant head coach of the Fighting Bees. He was named a MSFA Midwest League Assistant Coach of the Year in 2008. He has coached five All-Americans and been a part of seven Mid-State Football Association Conference Championships. His defense has finished in the top 25 in scoring for the last five years highlights by a No. 2 finish in 2009 and a No. 5 finish in 2011.

Head Coach
Will Wagner (Hardin-Simmons, '96) will begin his fourth season as head coach of the Rams. He is 19-20 in his fourth season at the helm of the Rams. The Odessa native helped Northwest Missouri State win three national championships as an assistant head coach and defensive backs coach.

WIFI Friendly
LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Field will be one of the few if the only stadium in Division II to offer free wifi for fans. Fans will be able to connect to stadium.angelo.edu and receive wireless internet free of charge during all ASU home football games.  

Ram Jam
The ASU Alumni Association hosts a pre-game tailgate at the LeGrand Alumni and Visitors Center two and a half hours prior to kickoff. Food and refreshment will be available as will live music throughout the season. Bring your family out to support the Rams at Ram Jam. Sold Out
LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field has a new record. A total of 5,946 fans were in attendance against West Texas A&M which broke the inaugural game record of 5,860 fans. It is the second game to be sold out in stadium history. 

LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field
The Rams will not only play the inaugural game of LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field but also the first game on the Angelo State campus. The Rams first game in 1939 was played at Old Bobcat Stadium and the team moved to San Angelo Stadium in 1956. The stadium capacity is 5,670 and is Wi-Fi friendly. 

The Program
Angelo State won the NAIA National Championship in 1978 and has won three Lone Star Conference Championships (1978, 1984, 1987). The Rams have seen five NCAA D-II playoff appearances and produced 57 All-Americans. Angelo State has sent 11 student-athletes on to successful NFL careers, including Pierce Holt, who earned two Super Bowl rings with the San Francisco 49ers in 1988 and 1989. He was a two-time Pro Bowl selection and was inducted into the NCAA Division II Football Hall of Fame in 2000. Legendary Baylor head coach Grant Teaff coached at ASU, and has been inducted into the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame with Holt and former Rams' offensive lineman Rodney Cason.
