SAN ANGELO – The Angelo Stated women's basketball team fought back to close what was a 19-point lead to four before Lubbock Christian pulled away for a 71-57 victory at the Junell Center.
 LCU (3-1) was to hit 42.3-perecent from the floor and block 12 ASU shots. The Belles (0-4) out-rebounded the Lady Chaps 53-45 but only shot 29.2-percent from the floor. LCU was able to outscore the Belles 44-18 in the paint and score 17 points off 18 ASU turnovers. The Belles received 26 points off the bench and hit 68.2-percent from the free throw line.
Amanda Weaver recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Jasmine Caston scored 12 points while Shauna Coleman added 11 points. Jackie Patterson scored eight points and led the team with 11 rebounds.
Weaver took the opening tip for a layup and a quick 2-0 advantage. Elaine Herrera drained a three followed by back-to-back buckets by Coleman for a 9-0 lead over the first four minutes of the first half. LCU's Blair Taylor hit a jump to spark the Lady Chaps to an 18-2 run to flip the score to 20-11 with 6:30 to go in the half.
Weaver hit another jumper to stop the run and ASU would cut the deficit to 22-16 with a free throw by Michelle Rosewell. The Lady Chaps responded by scoring the last nine points of the half for a 31-16 lead at the break.
LCU came out of the break to extend their lead to 37-18. The Belles would continue to battle and outscore LCU 11-7 over the next two minutes of the second half.
ASU would make a run down 46-29 with 14:25 to go in the game. Caston blocked a Tess Bruffey shot and was fouled on a shot and sank two free throws. Caston hit a 3-pointer followed by a jumped by Jackie Patterson that sparked a 16-4 run to make it a four-point LCU lead with 9:08 to go. Â Caston scored eight of her 12 points during the stretch.
LCU responded with a 13-4 run to push the lead back to 63-50 before Weaver hit her second 3-pointer of the night. ASU would try to make a run but were outscored 8-4 over the last 3:22 as LCU secured the 71-57 win.
Bruffery led LCU with a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Haley Burton led all scorers with 15 points and Allison Szabo 11 points. Kellyn Schneider added seven points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Belles will return to action at the St. Mary's Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 29 against Colorado State-Pueblo at 1 p.m. in San Antonio followed by a rematch with St. Mary's on Sunday Nov. 30 at 1 p.m.
