No. 17 Rambelles Splits at ASU George McCorkle Classic

SAN ANGELO –
The No. 17 Angelo State softball team defeated Drury, 3-1, but fell to East Central, 2-0, on the first day of the ASU George McCorkle Classic at Mayer Field on Saturday.

The Rambelles (3-3) first game of the day was a good one for freshman Kenedy Urbany. The freshman held Drury (1-0) to only one run on four hits through seven innings of work. The Helotes native struck out four to earn her second win of the season.

Darian Dunn provided the run support in the third inning. Morgan Spearman hit a single to right center and was followed by a bunt single by Maddy McGarity. On the first pitch at the plate, Dunn hit a shot to left field for her second home run of the season.

The second game the Rambelles were limited to five hits in the game. ASU had two chances with runners in scoring position. The first was Dunn in the first inning after a single. The sophomore went to second on an error and to third on a passed ball but Urbany struck out swinging to end the inning.

The second scoring chance was in the second inning after a bunt single by Micherie Koria. Koria the Rambelles leading base stealer stole second for her sixth of the season but was stranded.

Sandra Serna pitched a complete game four hitter and held East Central (2-4) scoreless until the top of the seventh inning.

After getting the first out, Autumn Suydam singled up the middle. Serna worked back to get the second out. Jordynn VanPelt stepped to the plate and sent a pitch over the left field wall for the 2-0 advantage. Angelo State would put a runner on in the seventh but couldn't get it across.

The Rambelles will return to the diamond on Sunday at 12:45 p.m. against East Central at Mayer Field.
