SAN ANGELO –
Chris Jones matched the Angelo State single-game record with seven steals and secured his first double-double of the season with 16 points and a season-best 12 assists to help lead the No. 22-ranked Rams to a 108-55 non-conference win over York College on Saturday at the Junell Center.

The Rams (12-1) are now on a season-high seven-game winning streak going into Lone Star Conference play where they'll open against No. 4-ranked Tarleton State (12-0) at 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Junell Center. ASU moved to 9-0 at home this season with the win over the Panthers (8-8) and scored over 100 points for the second game in a row and for the fourth time this season.

"I thought our guys took this game seriously because we knew that York was a quality opponent and we needed this game to get ready for conference play," ASU head coach Chris Beard said. "We played really well tonight. We've shown a real unselfishness throughout the season and that continued tonight."

Jones, who had eight points, five steals and six assists at halftime, matched former Rams Nate Gordon (2003) and Denell Stephens (2007) who also had seven-steal games during their careers at ASU. Jones has now scored in double-figures in 12 of 13 games this season and leads the Rams and the LSC with 75 assists and 42 steals to go along with averaging 14.8 points per game.

"We came out focused and ready to play," Jones said. "This was a good win, but we have to stay focused on our goals and start getting ready for Tarleton. It says a lot about our team to be coming off a 14-day break and play like this. It really shows that even though we were on a break, we all stayed focused and worked on our games."

All five starters scored in double-figures for the Rams against York College, with Marsell Holden matching Jones with a game-high 16 points after hitting four 3-pointers and Raijon Kelly and Bilal Richardson scoring 15 points in his first start of the season. Holden leads ASU and the conference with 39 3-pointers this season and has now hit 16 3-pointers in the past three games. Demario Mayfield added 14 points, five assists and four rebounds for the Rams, while Brentine Taylor went for nine points and four rebounds. Omari Gudul secured a game-high eight rebounds and added four points, while Tommy Woolridge scored seven points after hitting two 3-pointers and Thomas Brandsma scored six points and had two rebounds.

Jones is the fourth Ram with a double-double this season after Richardson and Kelly each had one earlier this season and Mayfield has six to lead the Rams. His 12 assists were only one behind Mayfield's 13 for the team's best this season.

The four 100-point performances this season are only behind the 1993-94 team which had six games in triple-digits and the 2000-01 team which had five games over 100 points. ASU, which leads the nation with a 31.2 scoring margin advantage, is averaging 94.2 points per game this season and is limiting the opposition to 63.0 points per game. The Rams also lead the nation with a 56.3 field-goal percentage and increased their efficiency by shooting 64.7 percent against the Panthers. That shooting percentage is the second best this season for ASU, falling just behind a 66.1 percent performance earlier this season at McMurry.

ASU, which never trailed and led 52-24 at halftime after shooting 61.1 percent from the field, finished the game with 31 assists which is also the second most this season and made 44 baskets which is the most it has made in a game this season. The Rams are now 20-2 on their home court over the past two seasons going into Wednesday's game against the Texans.
