No. 4 Belles top MSU 4-0 in Dominating Fashion

SAN ANGELO – In what was a historic win, the No. 4-ranked Angelo State women's soccer team completed a season sweep of Midwestern State 4-0.

The win marked the Belles seventh consecutive win and seventh consecutive shutout. The win is a school record for most consecutive wins in a season. The Belles also extended their scoreless minutes streak to 707 minutes, dating back to the 13th minute against Texas A&M-Commerce.

ASU also tied the school record for consecutive shutouts in the win. The Belles have notched 10 shutouts this season, three shy of the school record.
ASU is now 13-1-1 overall and 7-1-0 in Lone Star Conference action.

Shantel Wittke recorded seven saves to anchor another outstanding performance from the Belles defense.

The first goal for the Belles was scored by Sierra Anderson in the third minute. Haley Mendel gathered the ball right of the goal about 15 yards out and crossed the ball inside to Anderson as the senior slid and pocketed the ball in the right corner as it squibbed past the goalkeeper. The goal was Anderson's eighth of the season. She now has 32 goals for her career. ASU went to the half leading 1-0.

In the 56th minute, Mendel scored a goal when Callie Smith played a ball nearly 20 yards in the air. The ball fell in front of the goal and deflected off a MSU defender as Mendel was in the right place and slotted the ball in the upper right corner of the goal for the 2-0 lead. The goal was the ninth for Mendel this season, which leads the team.

Six minutes later Tiffany Dang scored her fourth goal of the season on an absolute rocket from 30 yards out that flew by the diving goalkeeper. Analise Watson was credited with her first assist on the season for playing the through ball to Dang.

Elizabeth Rodriguez didn't waste much time making it 4-0. The sophomore found the opposing net as she was played a through ball from Demi Tsambasis and hammered a shot of the far goalpost that ricocheted in. The goal was Rodriguez's first goal of 2015.

The Belles are back in action to wrap up the regular season next weekend against Texas Woman's University on Friday evening at 7 p.m. and Sunday afternoon against TAMUC at 2 p.m. Angelo State can clinch the LSC regular season title for the first time in school history with a win.
