CANYON – The No. 11 Angelo State women's softball team moved to 10-0 on the season with a 10-1 win over Colorado Mesa and a 4-0 victory against Adams State at the Woodward Invitational on Saturday.
"I know it sounds redundant but Kenedy (Urbany) and Brandy (Marlett) were outstanding once again," ASU head softball coach
Travis Scott said. "We continue to play solid defense behind them and they take care of the rest.
Rachel Moore had a big day at the plate as well as Madison (Greenwell), Ambra (Hill) and Camry (Weinheimer). It was a total team effort today and it feels good to be 10-0."
The pitching combination of
Kenedy Urbany and
Brandy Marlett only gave up one run on seven hits during the two games. Opponents were only able to hit .152 off the duo and each threw complete games.
The Rambelles relied on the arm of Urbany in game one versus Colorado Mesa. The sophomore stepped up holding Colorado Mesa to just two hits and one run while striking out a season-high six batters. It is her fifth win of the season and she now has 26 wins in her career in the circle.
ASU was held scoreless until the third inning.
Madison Greenwell was the first to cross the plate after reaching on an infield single. The freshman scored from second on a single by
Rachel Moore for a 1-0 lead after the top of the third.
Four more runs came across in the top of the fourth.
Camry Weinheimer drove in
Tina Cisneros with a double. After
Ciara Sheppard drew a walk, Greenwell brought Weinheimer home with a single back up the middle and Sheppard reached home after an error by the first baseman.
Colorado Mesa scored its only run in the bottom of the fourth. A triple to left center would score one batter later on a grounder to make it 5-1 ASU. Urbany would only allow two hits in the final three innings to secure the win.
Cisneros scored her second run of the game after reaching on an error. The bases were loaded and Greenwell was hit by a pitch to bring in the senior.
Rachel Moore scored in the sixth to extend the lead to 7-1. She singled for
her second hit of the game and scored on a RBI double by Urbany.
The bench again stepped up for ASU in the top of the seventh.
Amber Rendon hit a RBI single to score pinch runner

Brooke Mangold came to the plate with two on and two outs. The freshman hit a stand-up triple to left field to record her first RBIs of her ASU career.
Megan Granado came in to pitch the final inning of the game. The senior did not allow a hit and struck out one in her first career appearance in the circle at ASU.
Marlett stifled the Adams State hitters in the second game but the Grizzles threatened in the second after a bunt single by Tayler Else. The second baseman stole second and third base before being thrown out at the plate for the final out of the second inning.
The Rambelles had runners and second and third base but both were stranded after Adams State Kelsey Sellars struck out the final two batters of the inning. ASU was held to just three hits through the first four innings.
An Adams State error in the fourth allowed ASU to take a 1-0 lead.
Ambra Hill hit an infield single and reached second on a sacrifice bunt from Greenwell. Koria hit a foul ball that was caught for the second out but the first baseman committed an error that allowed the junior to score.
After a scoreless sixth, ASU added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Hill hit a triple down the right field line to score pinch runner
Kelly Johnson. Hill scored on an error that allowed Greenwell to reach and Koria added the final run on a RBI single by Moore.
Marlett earned her third shutout of the season and fifth win after holding Adams State to just five hits. The freshman struck out six batters and four of the strikeouts were immediately after giving up a hit. She now has recorded 35 strikeouts in 36.0 innings of work.
The Rambelles will conclude the WT Woodward Classic tomorrow with games against Chadron State at 12:45 p.m. and Metro State at 3 p.m.
