Belles Fall to No. 4 West Texas A&M in LSC Quarterfinals

ALLEN, Texas – The Angelo State women's basketball team had its season come to an end in a 87-46 loss to No. 4 West Texas A&M in the Lone Star Conference Quarterfinals held at the Allen Events Center.

The Belles end the year at 9-18 with the loss while West Texas A&M improved to 25-2 on the season and advance to the semifinal round of the LSC Tournament Championship. ASU struggled from the field hitting only 27.7-percent from the field. The Lady Buffs hit 54.8-percent from the field and 42.1-percent from 3-poitners.

Michelle Rosewell ended her playing career by tying her career high with 13 points. The senior hit 4 of 8 from the field and 2 of 5 from behind the arc. Shanna Diamalises Rivera added nine points and eight rebounds while KeAnna Kelly chipped in eight points.

The Belles hung with the Lady Buffs through the first three minutes of the game. Rosewell hit a layup for ASU's first points of the game and Shanna Taylor hit a jumper to tie the game at four at the 17:43 mark of the first half. WT would get on a run that lasted throughout the first half. The Belles would be held to just 15 points over the final 17:09 of the first half.

WT hit 60.0-percent from the field in the first half with five 3-pointers. The Belles did force eight WT turnovers in the first half.

Despite being down 44-19 at the break, ASU wouldn't quit. The Belles scored 27 points in the second half including 18 points over the final 8:19 of the game. Leila Jdily-Ezzad would hit a layup to spark nine points over the next 1:54. Rosewell hit a 3-pointer while Kelly capped it off with a jumper on the baseline. ASU ended the game on a 9-3 run with Rivera scoring five of the nine over the final 3:19 of the game.

Roswell scored nine of her 13 points in the second half. 

The 43 points ties the season low for points in a game for ASU. Four Lady Buffs scored in double figures led by Madison McLain's 12 points. Ariel Robertson added 11 and Sasha Watson had 10 points.
