LAWTON, Okla. - The No. 13 Angelo State softball team split its doubleheader with Cameron on Friday afternoon taking the first game 4-3 but falling 10-2 in game two at McMahon Field.
The Rambelles (33-12-1, 15-10-1 LSC) recorded 14 hits in the two games but only scored six runs while the Aggies (36-15, 14-12 LSC) hit a combined five home runs and scored 13 runs. Â ASU is now 9-6-1 on the road this season.
"It was an up and down day for us," ASU head coach Travis Scott. "With the wind blowing out, Kenedy (Urbany) was awesome in game one. She kept the ball down and limited their base runners. Rachel (Moore) was able to set the tone with a solo home run. It was a big win."
Angelo State was held to six hits, but the hits were big ones. Rachel Moore led the game off with a solo home run to left center for an early lead. It is the senior's fourth home run of the year and second in the last six games.
Cameron tied it up with a double but ASU responded with another big hit. A single by Kenedy Urbany brought Tina Cisneros to the plate. The senior crushed a ball to centerfield for a two-run home run. Cisnero's fourth home run of the year gave the Rambelles a 3-1 advantage.
Urbany was able to limit Cameron's potent offense to just three runs on six hits. The Aggies were able cut the deficit to 3-2 with a solo shot in the fourth, but Kylie Love scored on a wild pitch in the sixth for an important insurance run.
The Aggies made it a one-run game with another solo home run, but Urbany didn't allow another run to earn her 15th win of the season. She struck out two in seven innings of work.
In game two, the Rambelles responded to a second inning home run with two runs in the top of the third. Ciara Sheppard and Ambra Hill hit back-to-back singles and Madison Greenwell hit a double to score both runs.
The Aggies offense came alive in the third inning with nine runs on nine hits including four two home runs. The Rambelles were unable to score in the fourth or fifth falling 10-2 in five innings.
"Things were going our way in game two," Scott said, "They got some bloop hits and big home runs and things got out of hand. We have to turn those into slug fest and score some runs."
Marlett was credited with just her fifth loss of the season. She allowed 10 runs on nine hits and only struck out two batters.
The Rambelles will return to the field tomorrow at 12 p.m. for a doubleheader at McMahon Field.
"We have to come out tomorrow and be ready to finish the regular season strong," Scott said.
