LAWTON, Okla. – The No. 13 Angelo State softball team lost Saturday's final regular season doubleheader 5-0 and 11-1 to drop the season series to Cameron at McMahon Field.
The Rambelles (33-14-1, 15-12-1, LSC) struggled offensively and only recorded eight hits and one run in the two games. The Aggies (38-15, 15-13 LSC) used 21 hits, four home runs and 16 runs to take the season series.
Kenedy Urbany threw game one and limited Cameron to just three hits through the first three innings. The Rambelles threatened to score first in the top of the third inning. ASU had runners at first and second but couldn't push the run home.
The Aggies struck first with a solo home run from Lauren Renneker in the bottom of the fourth. Cameron added four more runs in the top of the fifth as Chelsea DeLong hit a three-run home run and Tara Martini hit a solo shot for a 5-0 advantage after five.
ASU had runners on in the fifth and seventh but was unable to score. Urbany was credited with the loss in 4.1 innings of work. The sophomore allowed five runs on eight hits.
Brandy Marlett came in relief and didn't allow a hit or run in 1.2 innings. The freshman struck out two batters.Â
The Rambelles were unable to keep pace with Cameron's potent lineup in game two. The Aggies scored six first inning runs off starter
Megan Granado on their way to an 11-1
five inning run-rule victory. The senior threw four innings and allowed 11 runs on 13 hits in her first loss of the season. It was the senior's first start of the season. Â
Granado had the best day at the plate recording two of the four ASU hits in game two. The senior and
Camry Weinheimer hit back-to-back singles in the top of the second inning but were stranded. The Rambelles had a similar situation in the third with runners at first and second but a double play ended the threat.
Granado tallied her second hit of the day, a solo home run, in the top of the fourth inning to make it 11-1. It was the senior's third home run of the season. It was ASU's only run of the day.
The Rambelles, who have qualified for the LSC Tournament Championship, will await word on their seed and opponent. The LSC Tournament Championships, held at the site of the LSC Champion, will start on Friday, May 1.
