CANYON, Texas – The No. 22 Angelo State softball team was defeated by Cameron 13-4 in the quarterfinals of the LSC Tournament Championships on Friday afternoon.
The Rambelles (33-15-1) were able to score four runs on six hits including home runs from
Micherie Koria and
Megan Granado but the Aggies (39-15) used its potent offense to score 13 runs on 17 hits including five home runs.
Tina Cisneros put ASU on the board first with a RBI single in the top of the first to plate
Rachel Moore. Cameron's Tara Martini tied it with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning.
Micherie Koria answered with a solo home run to left center for a 2-1 advantage in the top of the second. It was the senior's second home run of the season. Â
Brandy Marlett sat Cameron down in order in the bottom of the second inning to keep the score at 2-1.
Cameron's offense came alive in the bottom of the third scoring five runs on five hits with two being home runs. The Rambelles were held hitless through the next three innings by CU's Kelsey Watson. Cameron added two more runs in the fourth to take an 8-2 after four innings. Â
Megan Granado cut the deficit to 8-4 in the top of the sixth with a two-run home run. It was the senior's fourth home run of the season. Cameron ended the game in the bottom of the sixth by forcing the run-rule with four more runs.
Marlett was credited with her sixth loss of the season after giving up 13 runs on 17 hits.
The Rambelles will now await the NCAA Division II South Central Regional selections that will be announced on Monday at 9 a.m.Â
