Rams complete series, season sweep of Cameron

LAWTON – The Angelo State Rams completed a series and season sweep of Cameron with a 9-4 Lone Star Conference win following a 6-3 victory in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday at McCord Field.

The Rams (24-10, 13-9 LSC) swept the three-game set in Lawton along with going 7-0 against the Aggies (14-19, 8-14 LSC) after also sweeping a four-game series earlier this season at Foster Field. ASU pounded out 14 hits in the series finale with Derek Tyner leading the way with a 3-for-5 game at the plate and J.C. Snyder, David Goggin and Cody Semler each having two-hit games for the Rams who have now won four straight games after also knocking off No. 13-ranked St. Mary's on Tuesday.

"I really think we have our confidence back," ASU head coach Kevin Brooks said. "We were struggling there for a couple of weeks but we always believed that we are a very good team. We had some really good meetings with our guys after our losses last week at Eastern, but talk is just talk unless you come back and do something like we did here this weekend against Cameron. They got after it this weekend and we're going to try and keep this thing rolling."

Dillon Becker (3-1) earned the win for the Rams after coming into the game in the fifth inning in relief of starter Bryce Zak who went four innings and had five strikeouts and allowed only one earned run. Backer threw one inning and stranded the bases loaded without allowing a run in the fifth. The Rams blew the game open with five runs on five hits in the sixth, including a two-run single by Goggin to center field and a two-run single by Semler through the right-side of the infield. Semler would also add a leadoff double to left-center field and score another run in the eighth.

Sam Kohler went 1-for-3 in the series finale and finished the series 4-for-8, while Tyner went 5-for-12 (.417) during the three games in Lawton. Paxton DeLaGarza went 1-for-4 with his 10th double of the season and extended his reached-base streak to 17, while Snyder hit his team and conference-leading 16th double of the season to right field in the series finale. Tyner and DeLaGarza are now tied for the team lead with 15 multi-hit games this season, while DeLaGarza is now on a six-game hitting streak and Kohler is a on a five-game streak.

The Rams will host Tarleton State next weekend in a four-game series from Friday to Sunday at Foster Field.
