No. 10 Belles Make Way to Kingsville for Dual Match

SAN ANGELO - The No. 10 Angelo State volleyball team will travel to Kingsville, Texas for a pair of matches with Texas A&M -Kingsville and Texas A&M International on Tuesday, November 1 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

The Belles, who improved to 23-2, 14-1 LSC after coming off an excellent week with defeats of Tarleton State, West Texas A&M and UT - Permian Basin, have remained on top of the offensive rankings in the conference. ASU also remains on top of the LSC as it has held its opponents to an average clip of .132. The Belles will be looking to extend its current win streak of 10 matches and its two match lead over Tarleton State to remain in first place.

Having defeated the Javelinas in a 3-1 match earlier this season, ASU continues to lead the all-time record 57-11. The Belles will face a Javelina defense that leads the conference with an average of 2.31 blocks per match.  TAMUK, which is currently sitting at 20-7, 10-5 LSC, will be seeking to build off its last 3-1 win over Texas Woman's.

After its 1 p.m. match with the host Javelinas, Angelo State will then take on Texas A&M International at 4 p.m. The Dustdevils will enter the match with a 2-18 overall record and a 2-9 Heartland Conference record. TAMUI's last win came in the form of a sweep over Oklahoma Panhandle State on October 27. This was followed by a 0-3 loss to Lubbock Christian two days later. ASU leads the all-time series with TAMUI, 2-1, with the last match up between the two teams happening in 2011.  

Making an all-around statement last week, was freshman Tulani Titley. The middle blocker tied a season high marking eight kills against West Texas A&M in route to recording a team fourth 21 total kills for the week. She also recorded a team best .472 clip for the week. Defensively, Titley led the Belles with 11 total blocks and a pair of solo blocks. She has a total of 50 blocks on the season which places her third on the squad.

Leading the Belles offense in the dual matches will be Mallory Blauser, Abbie Lynn and Brianna Sotello. Heading the team with 360 total kills on the year, Blauser totaled 43 kills in last week's three matches which included victories over West Texas A&M, Tarleton State and UT-Permian Basin. This gave the senior an outstanding 4.30 kills per set average over the past week. Blauser, who has 1,269 career kills, is now only 30 kills away from advancing to fourth all-time in total career kills. Assisting the Belles defense, she also turned in a team second 50 digs and team third eight blocks for the week.

Lynn was second on the squad in total kills in last week's matches with 23. She averaged 2.30 kills per set and a .247 clip for the week. She tallied a team second seven blocks on defense. Sotello rounded out the group recording 22 total kills for the tough week, which averaged the junior 3.14 kills per set. She has currently moved up to the 15th spot all-time with 1,011 total career kills. In addition, she also recorded a team third 40 digs for the week.

Continuing to set for ASU is freshman Meghan Parker. With 119 assists this past week, the freshman has already climbed into the 10th slot in the record books for career assists (978). She averaged 11.90 assists per set and is hovering at an average of 11.65 assists per set for 2016. She continues to lead the team with 29 service aces. Parker also recorded her seventh double-double against West Texas A&M as she turned in 14 digs along with 50 assists for the night. She was third overall on the squad with 29 total digs for the week. Five total blocks completes her defensive stats for the week.   

Solidifying the ASU defense was Mallory Davidson, Morgan Seaton and Micheala Sifuentes. Davidson recorded a career high 33 digs against the Lady Buffs last Friday and recorded a team high total of 69 for the week. With last week's top performance, she took over first place on the team with 295 total digs in 2016. Since making her debut as the starting libero on October 1 against Texas A&M - Kingsville, the sophomore has averaged a solid 5.60 digs per set. Seaton co-led ASU with 10 total blocks this past week. She currently leads the team with 77 total blocks in 2016 and is averaging .939 blocks per set. She has also made great contributions to the attack as she sits at fourth on the team with 163 for the season. Finally, Sifuentes assisted the ASU defensive efforts as she chalked up 20 digs against the past three opponents. She is currently fourth on the team with 218 on the season.
