SILVER CITY, New Mexico – No. 10 Angelo State volleyball team completed its regular season and rebounded with a sweep (25-19, 25-20, 25-21) of Western New Mexico on the road Saturday night.
With Saturday night's win, the Belles complete its 2016 regular season with a 28-3 overall record and a 18-2 record in the Lone Star Conference. The ASU attack recorded an outstanding .361 clip for the match. Western New Mexico drops to 16-15 with the loss, and completes its inaugural season in the LSC with a conference record of 8-12.
"We responded really well tonight," commented ASU Head Coach Chuck Waddington. "I thought that we play at a good level throughout the match and I was proud of Ali [Davison] for stepping up tonight when we needed her."
Junior Brianna Sotello and Senior Mallory Blauser led the Belles offense against WNMU. With 14 kills on the night, Sotello turned in a solid .387clip against the Mustangs. She also added a single service ace. Blauser recorded a team second 10 kills and a .321 hitting percentage for the match. Â The Round Rock native also added six digs and a pair of block assists on defense.
It was Mallory Davidson, Micheala Sifuentes, Tulani Titley and Morgan Seaton that headed the Belles defensive efforts against the Mustangs. Davidson chalked 16 digs from the libero position, which marker her 14th consecutive match with double-figure digs this season. Defensive specialist, Sifuentes, added a team second 11 digs.  Titley's five total blocks for the night led the squad. The freshman also added eight kills to her numbers while recording a team high .636 clips. Also firing in eight kills, Seaton followed with a team second four total blocks.
Continuing to dish out the ball for ASU, Meghan Parker tallied 42 assists. The freshman has now totaled 1165 assists in 2016 and remains 10th all-time in ASU history. The San Antonio native also led the Belles from the service line with a pair of aces. Â Defensively, she added team third three blocks and seven digs.
Ali Davison also provided great depth for the Belles, as she came through with seven big kills in Silver City. She also aided the defense with a key block assist.
Angelo State took an early lead in the match as it pieced together a 10-5 run. Getting the Belles started on the run with big swings was Sotello and Blauser, which was followed kills from Davison and Titley.  The Mustangs would pull to within one, 16-15, before Parker dropped on in to kick off a large 7-1 run for ASU. Belles outside hitters Blauser and Sotello would complete set driving in the final pair of kills that would give the set to the Belles.
In the second set, ASU would once again come out and claim a quick lead. However, the Mustangs would regain midway through taking a 13-11 lead. A pair of Sotello kills along with a WNMU error would bring the set back to an even 14, before Titley fired in a kill to regain the lead. The Belles would stay in front for the remainder of the set, as it would take a 2-0 set lead in the match by finishing with a 6-2 run. Sotello would drive in the final four consecutive points for ASU. Â Â Â
The Belles continued to feed off of its momentum from the previous set as it once again jumped out in front early. With 9-7 on the board, Seaton rocketed in a kill from the middle of the court. This was immediately followed by a Parker service ace. The Mustangs then battled back placing six straight points on the board to take the lead. Down 18-17, Blauser dropped in a kill that was immediately followed by a block with Seaton's assistance. This gave the Belles the final push it needed to take over the lead and maintain for the remainder of the match. Seaton would place the Belles in the win column with scoring the final kill of the match.
The Belles return home to play host the 2016 Lone Star Conference Volleyball Tournament on Thursday, November 17 through Saturday, November 19 in the Stephens Arena at the Junell Center. Â Â Â Â Â
