No. 10 Belles Remain Undefeated at Home with Sweep of Aggies

SAN ANGELO – The No. 10 Angelo State volleyball team extended its win streak to 13 matches with a sweep of Cameron (25-15, 25-18, 25-11) on Friday night.

The Belles, which are now 26-2, 16-1 LSC and 13-0 at home, clinched at least a share of the regular season LSC title with Friday night win. This places ASU in position to claim the title outright with another victory on Saturday afternoon.  The team's offense recorded an outstanding .407 team hitting percentage for the match and dropped in seven service aces to Cameron's one.  With the loss, the Aggies dropped to 3-23, 1-16 LSC.

"It's always good to get a win," commented ASU head Coach Chuck Waddington. "What I liked the most is that we played at a very high level. Cameron is a team that doesn't make many errors so we had to work hard to generate points on our side. We dug a ton of balls and were really effective attacking in transition tonight."

Mallory Blauser led the team in all aspects of the game against the Aggies. She headed the offensive attack as she hammered in a team leading 16 kills and added a pair of aces for the night. With tonight's performance, the senior leader jump to third all-time in the ASU record books with 1,313 career kills.  The senior also lead the defensive efforts with a team most 19 digs. This marked her 12th double –double this season, which is currently the team high.  This was her second highest dig count in 2016. The outside hitter also recorded a single block assist.

Juniors Morgan Seaton and Abbie Lynn also turned in solid offensive numbers for the Belles. Both players recorded 11 kills for the evening. Seaton chalked a .474 clip against Cameron, while adding her 13th ace for the season. She led the defense with two total blocks. Lynn, who completed the match with a .440 hitting percentage, also added a block to her stats.

Libero Mallory Davidson, defensive specialist Brooke Robertson and right side Jenna Markey solidified the defense for the Belles. Davidson tallied 15 digs marking her 11th consecutive match with double-digit digs. In addition, she co-led ASU from the service line firing in two aces. Robertson checked in with a team third nine digs on the night, while Markey recorded her sixth block assist of the season. Markey also marked a season high four kills.

Meghan Parker continued to dish out the ball for ASU, as she finished the night by adding 33 more assists to her numbers which now totals 1,048. She assisted the defense with seven digs against the Aggies.

Also playing well on the court Friday night for the Belles was Kelly Hasbrouck and Eadara Files. Hasbrouck marked a team second seven assists and an ace, while Files recorded a team third five assists.

Angelo State opened the match with an early 8-1 run that saw a stretch of five straight points scored off of kills and a service ace. Cameron would cut the lead to six points with 18-12 on the board, but three straight kills from Seaton, Lynn and Brianna Sotello along with a Blauser ace would push the lead to 10. Tulani Titley would close out the set for the Belles as she hammered in the final kill.

The Aggies would begin the second set by taking its first lead of the match, but with the score sitting at 4-3, Seaton, Lynn and Ali Davison would string together three straight kills and an ace to regain.  The Belles would not look back as it would maintain the lead throughout the remainder of the set despite the Aggies closing to within five late in the set. A block from Blauser and Seaton would send ASU into the intermission with a 2-0 set lead.

The Belles would come out firing early again in the final set as Leiyona Young and  Markey got things rolling with consecutive kills. With a 13 -5 lead midway through the set, Davison kicked of a massive 10-2 run for ASU. With the Belles defense limiting the Aggies to a .045 clip for the set, Cameron would be unable to close the gap to less than 13 points. A final kill from Seaton which was set up by Files completed the sweep and placed Angelo State in the win column.
