Belles Prepared for Road Test with Texas A&M-Commerce

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will try to rebound from its first loss in six games on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 4 p.m. at Texas A&M-Commerce.

The Belles head into the matchup with a 15-6 overall record and 8-3 in the LSC. ASU is 3-3 on the road and 2-2 on the road against conference foes. Angelo State continues to lead the LSC in points per game (81.2), offensive rebounds (15.0) and assist to turnover ratio (1.19).

"We need to show them the same resilience they have shown all year," Angelo State women's basketball coach Kevin Baker said. "We didn't play very well in the win over Eastern New Mexico or the loss against Tarleton State and I want us to just play better basketball."

Texas A&M-Commerce has four straight games and enters with a 14-10 overall record and a 7-5 conference record. The Lions score 71.2 points per game and hold teams to 65.0. Araejah Gay and Shomari Harris lead TAMUC with 10.9 and 10.4 points per game, respectively.

"Texas A&M-Commerce is playing really well," Baker said. "I expect a really tough game much like the first game. We will have to be ready to play transition basketball because that is where a majority of their points come from. The really rely on getting layups in transition and we will have to eliminate fast break points."

ASU won the first game 82-78 at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center. The Belles hit 51.7-percent from the floor and three players scored at least 20 points. The Lions were able to score 24 points in transition.

The Belles are the only LSC team to have three scorers in the top 10 in points per game.
