No. 22 Rambelles Lose Two at No. 1 West Texas A&M

CANYON, Texas – The No. 22 Angelo State softball team lost the final two games of the series 9-1 in six innings and 3-2 to No. 1 West Texas A&M on Saturday in Canyon.

"We were three swings away from being able to take the series," Angelo State head softball coach Travis Scott said. "Credit to West Texas A&M, they have some very good pitchers and they were able to get us out. Morgan Hill and Brandy Marlett were awesome all weekend long. If we continue to pitch like that and get some timely hitting we will be in good shape."

The Rambelles (18-9, 7-5 LSC) was clinging to a 1-0 lead in the fifth after Ambra Hill scored on a RBI single from Bailey Wallace in the third in the series finale. Lanie Robinson singled was sitting on third when Kenedy Urbany sent a single back up the middle to put ASU on top 2-0. It was ASU's third lead of the series. Wallace went 2-for-3 in game two with an RBI.

The Lady Buffs (28-0, 12-0 LSC) responded in the bottom of the fifth with two home runs to take a 3-2 advantage.

ASU had runners at first and second in the sixth but a liner to centerfield was caught and turned into a double play to end the threat.

The Rambelles had one more chance in the seventh with a runner at second base with two outs but WT's Tori Bayer induced a fly ball to centerfield for the final out.

Marlett threw six innings and struck out six batters. The sophomore is now 6-4 on the season.

The Lady Buffs overpowered ASU in the first game on Saturday.

Madison Greenwell led the game off with a double and Alexis Evans picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice for a 1-0 lead.

The lead was short lived as WT hit a two-run home run in the first to go up 2-1. WT would score a run in the second, third and four in the sixth to force the run-rule at 9-1.

Morgan Hill was credited with the loss after allowed five runs on seven hits. She did strike out four batters and only walked one.

The Rambelles will return home for a four game LSC series with Texas Woman's at Mayer Field on Friday, March 18 and Saturday, March 19.
