Rams Drop Road Game to Texas A&M - Kingsville

KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Angelo State men's basketball team fell to Texas A&M - Kingsville, 67-53, on the road Tuesday night.

The Rams dropped to 12-5 overall and 4-5 in the Lone Star Conference with the loss. With only two players hitting double-digit points against the Javelinas, ASU only recorded seven assists during the game. Angelo State committed a season high 26 turnovers for the game. TAMUK improves to 11-7, 4-5 LSC with the victory.

Quay King and DeVonte' Pratt both led the Rams in scoring with 16 points each. King was 9-11 from the stripe and recorded a steal to assist the defense. Pratt led the defense efforts putting away a pair of steals and pulling down a squad second six boards.

Thomas Tshikaya and Justin Hollins anchored the ASU defense for the game. Tshikaya headed the team with 10 rebounds and co-led with a pair of blocks. The senior out of France also scored a team third seven total points. Hollins also co-led the Rams with a two block performance.

The Rams kicked off the game with Tshikaya rolling in a layup to play. The Javelinas responded with a 13-2 run and would not look back as they maintained the lead for the remainder. With 1:26 on the clock, Shaquan Rhoades knocked down a 3-pointer to close out the half. The two teams would enter the break with the Javelinas leading 26-14.

With 17:20 on the clock in the second half and trailing by 16 (30-14), Pratt jump started an 11-5 run with a layup off of the fast break. Pratt would contribute the majority of the points to the run dropping in a total of five points. After TAMUK tipped in a ball to take the score to 37-25, Pratt returned fire with a deep three to cut the Javelina lead to nine points. The Rams would be unable to hold TAMUK under a double-digit lead for long as the hogs would respond by pushing its lead back up to 18 (48-30) with 10:01 left in the game. An ASU 7-0 run would help to cut back the lead once more to 12 with 48-37 on the board, but it would not be enough as Texas A&M - Kingsville would hold on for the victory.

Angelo State returns home on Saturday, January 28 for a rematch with the Javelinas at 4 p.m.
