Urbany Leads No. 22 Rambelles to Sweep of Texas A&M-Kingsville

SAN ANGELO – Angelo State's Kenedy Urbany won both games in the circle and hit a game-winning two-run home run to help No. 22 Rambelle softball to a sweep of Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday at Mayer Field.

The Rambelles are now 13-1 on the season and 3-0 in the LSC with the sweep. The Javelinas (3-5, 0-3) were held to eight hits and six runs while striking out 21 times.

The story of game one was Urbany in the circle. The senior had a career day sitting down the first 16 batters in order. She was perfect and struck out seven through the first five innings.

Karina Rocha put the Rambelles on the board with a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the second. It is the freshman's fourth of the year and second of the weekend. It would be ASU's only hit until the fourth inning.

Danae Bina came to the plate with runners at first and second. The junior singled to left field and Taegan Kirk came home from second. The shortstop tried to throw out Bina but threw it to the outfield that allowed Rocha, who started the at-bat at first, and Bina to score to extend the lead to 4-0.

Urbany took care of the rest. The Helotes native had a perfect game going until a walk in the sixth inning but kept the no-hitter intact until the seventh. The first batter of the seventh hit a hard ball that got down the left field line for a single. Urbany competed the shutout and finished with a career high 10 strikeouts in her fourth win of the season.

The Rambelles looked for the sweep in game three of the series but they had to rally to do it.

Kirk got the fans on their feet with a two out, three-run home run to left field in the bottom of the third inning. It is the sophomore's third of the season.

ASU added a run in the fourth with a RBI double to left field from Madison Greenwell.

Brandy Marlett looked to be in control giving up only one hit and one walk through the first four innings. The Javelinas changed that in the fifth hitting a grand slam off the junior pitcher to tie the game at four. TAMUK would take the lead with two more runs in the fifth to go up 6-4.

Down 6-4 going into the fifth, Rocha quickly cut the deficit to just one. The Buda native crushed a ball to opposite field for a solo home run.

Urbany, who came in relief in the fifth, allowed one hit in the sixth but zero runs to keep the deficit at 6-5 going into the sixth.

Bailey Wallace stepped to the plate with two outs and took a two-two pitch to right field for her first hit of the series. Urbany came up and took the first pitch she saw over the left field fence to give ASU a 7-6 advantage going into the sixth.

Urbany sat down Texas A&M-Kingsville in order for her fifth win of the season. She held TAMUK to three hits in 2.2 innings pitched and struck out three.

The Rambelles will travel for its first LSC road series of the season in Silver City, New Mexico against Western New Mexico starting on Friday, Feb. 24.
