PUEBLO, Colorado – The Angelo State's women's basketball team had its historic season come to an end in the South Central Regional Championship game falling to West Texas A&M 86-64 in Pueblo, Colorado.
The Belles finish the year with the second most wins in program history with a 26-6 record. ASU won its first regular season Lone Star Conference Championship since 2005 and advanced to the program's first Sweet 16. West Texas A&M improves to 26-8 and advanced to the Elite Eight.
Taylor Dorsey scored a game-high 18 points in her final game at Angelo State.  She finishes the season with the fifth most points in a single season with 575 and is No. 12 on the career points list with 1,092 points. Christina Robinson scored 16 points and added three assists. She also finished with the No. 2 three point field goal percentage in a single season at 51.2 percent. Bria Frierson and Jasmine Prophet each added 10 points with Prophet grabbing seven rebounds. Prophet will finish her career as the No. 2 on the career field goal percentage at .526.
The Lady Buffs were extremely efficient from the field hitting 51.7 percent. WT also made 52.9 from the 3-point line and went 17-of-19 from the free throw line. ASU shot 40.9 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from behind the arc. WT was also able to score 27 points off 16 ASU turnovers.
WT jumped out to a 15-0 lead in the first quarter before a Dorsey layup put ASU on the board. The Belles would start scoring over the final 3:23 of the scoring eight points as Robinson and Dorsey hit back-to-back threes. WT answered every basket taking a 27-13 lead into the second quarter.
The Belles came out in the second quarter and trimmed WT's layup to 12 with at the 6:24 mark of the second quarter at 29-17. The Lady Buffs answered with a 6-0 run to push the deficit back to 18. WT's Lexy Hightower hit two three's late in the second quarter as WT built a 46-22 advantage before Frierson hit a layup at the end of the half.
Robinson found fire in the third quarter hitting three 3-pointers and cutting WT's lead down to 18 with 6:04 to go. It would be the closet ASU would get in the second half as WT 47.1 percent in the third quarter. Â The Belles would continue to battle in the fourth quarter and a Robinson jumper put the deficit under 20 points but WT answered every basket until the final of 86-64.
Five WT players scored in double figures led by Sydney Walton's 16 points.
