ABILENE, Texas – Angelo State's Daisy Osakue recorded the seventh best discus throw in NCAA Division II according to the United State Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on the first day of the ACU Wes Kittley Invite.
Osakue, a freshman, already owned the ASU school record, LSC recordand was leading Division II going into the meet. She continued her climb through the ranks by winning the event with a personal best throw and NCAA Division II automatic mark of 188'-7" (57.49-meters). She broke her previous school and LSC record of 179'-7" (54.74-meters) and has now thrown personal bests in three straight meets. It also set the Elmer Gray Stadium record. Osakue's throw is currently the best throw among all divisions.
Mason Myrick improved on his lifetime best throw in the discus. The junior recorded a NCAA Division II provisional mark of 172'-5" (52.57-meters) and stayed at No. 2 nationally.
Ericka Hernandez and Amber Graham placed fifth and sixth in the women's discus with throws of 146'-0" (44.51-meters) and 145'-6' (44.36-meters). Ryan Burge was eighth in the men's discus with a toss of 156'-6" (47.70-meters)
Zach Cabrera won the men's 5,000-meter title. The freshman clocked a personal best of 15:18.60 and beat second place by 12 seconds. Reese Montgomery clocked 16:46.18 for fifth. Kelsey Warren was fourth in the women's 5,000-meters in a time of 18:31.38.
Devitt Smetana covered the 10,000-meters in a time of 33:35.19 for second while Preston Brooks was fourth in 36:11.80.
Angelo State will begin day two of the Wes Kittley Invitational at 11 a.m.
